Being as my body type is exactly like Jordin's this affected me pretty badly b/c apparently for people like this MeMe Roth it's not enough that I live with my OWN daily self criticism & self esteem issues they feel the need to add there unwarrented 2 cents n to reafirm my own thoughts. This lady has no idea that plenty of "obese" people are just as healthy; if not more in some cases as skinny people. Not everyone can help the way there body looks, & it's not all about wat u eat that can make u that way there are MEDICAL disorders that can cause obesity, not to mention heredity & ethnicity can play a BIG role too. Stars like America Ferrera & the lovely Miss Jordin Sparks don't send an evil message that we should all be fatter, they send a message that it's OK to be curvy & HEALTHY & still be considered beautiful & talented. Wow... This is horrible! Stories like this is why I had an eating disorder when I was in high school and first semester of college. I became so obsessed about my weight and got so sick they had to call the EMT's to the college to get my sugar under control. It was totally embarassing not to mention scared the crap out of me and it was a wake-up call. This is rediculious! I now take care of myself and eat healthy I have a little weight on me but my doctor said that my weight is totally normal for my height and bone structure. I exercise daily and eat healthy while working full-time and I do volunteer work on the side. I am not at all lazy and nor is a girl Jordan's size. I loved her because I can relate to her... She's beautiful and her weight is perfect on her! She looks absolutely great! She is not at all obese nor is she fat!!! I had a friend who only ate one ding-dong a day to loose weight and she got really skinny and other threw up, and another only a bag of chips and another smoked... You call that healthy?

5'5" and 180 pounds is medically obese. It's not an insult, it is a medical term that is assigned when people fall into the range of having a BMI over 30. "Fat" isn't mean, it is the truth. It has nothing to do with singing ability, but people are responding emotionally to this when there really is no question the girl is overwieght. She should still win American Idol, but don't convince yourself that the girl is thin. She is not, and that is nothing to be ashamed of.

Personally, I supported Melinda Doolittle to be "Idol". However, weight shouldn't have anything to do with who is chosen. Yes, Jordin should lose a few (more than a few) pounds. I don't think she's obese, but she's been a PLUS size model so is definitely big. Has a lovely voice, however.

I would like for you to go in the scale and that it is not fared what you are saying. The fact of obese is if a person is more than 40 lbs over the standards of the health code. The other is that she is only a teenager and have none her part of the contest. I would like for you to tell me what is OBESE for you? The her weight is just fine. She makes Ryan look like a midget, so I venture to say she is at least 5' 11' or 6 foot tall. So 180 is not so much on her, definately not obese. I am much shorter, hit 150 and had people still calling me thin. Meme Anorexic should be ashamed of herself for promoting eating disorders, because that is exactly what she is doing.

I am 5' tall and weigh 120 pounds. by medical standards I am between 15% and 20% over my proper weight. According to all that I have read, anything more than 10% over proper weight for our height is defined as "obese" - it is NOT an insult, it is a medical definition, and we each have the right to choose the weight we wish to acheive and maintain.

If you really want to get down to absolute discrimination on what a persons appearance looks like than why did 74,000,000 votes, the voters, get rid of doolittle. Jordin also has a pretty face (just as the other young lady who should have won). You really do not have to "fill up" a CD cover to make it in the "weight" department anyway. I know that I am writing a lot tonight, but there isn't anything on the Comcast line-up until later. I am enjoying many of the comments written here about the issue of weight. For example, I fluctuate between 140-150. I am an ol' girl and now I know I am at least 140 and for 38 w/ no children, that isn't too bad (IMO). However, I have to agree that it seems that MEN are able to get away with the weight and looks issue. It goes to show to all of us that much hasn't changed in the past 50 years with the exception that we Zaftig ladies are fighting back and are hosting talk shows and starring in films. I notice the struggle in doing so and it takes courage to perform in front of a stage of obsessed crazed "0" sized fanatics and to strut your gift. There were so many Zaftigs in the auditions as well and it seems as if the full-figured carry confidence better than anything any of us can bash. When you REALLY look at it, I notice that the Zaftigs are getting and staying married much longer than the underweight fems.

i work in the medical field in a laboratory.. i see the effects from both being skinny and having eating disorders(bulima and anorexia) and also obestity .. jordin is far from being obese .. with her bone structure and height and ethincity she is perfect.. she is also 17 years old.. her body is still changing.. there is too much pressure on teenagers to being skinny by the media and movie stars .. anorexia and bulima mess up your electolye( potassium,sodium and chloride.. which damages your heart and kidneys) and also causes hypoglycemia(low blood sugar) you can go into a coma.. she will never be a size 0 or even a 10.. a 14 or 16 is reality.. society has to stop messing with "healthy" people and start reporting the dangers of yoyo dieting and purging.. obestity is a danger as well but jordin isn't obese!!she is very talented!!!
