Matt Damon's Life on the Down Low
In the new issue of GQ, Matt gives an interview to promote his new flick, The Bourne Ultimatum, but chooses to stay quiet about his wife, Luciana, and their baby girl, Isabella. And though some may find it frustrating that Matt likes to keep his private life, well, private, I find it refreshing and commendable. I think it proves that you can have some sort of boundaries in Hollywood if you really try.
Here are some things Matt was willing to talk about:
On he and Ben Affleck getting their first big paycheck after selling the script for Good Will Hunting: "We both bought Jeep Grand Cherokees. It was funny, because Ben and I, we both always wanted a Jeep Grand Cherokee for some reason. That was the car. We always talked about it but never could afford one. So when we suddenly had the money, we each instantly started trying to convince each other to get a different car. We’d say, ‘Hey, have you seen the Explorer? The Ford Explorer is really cool.’ Because we knew it would just be so gay to get the same car."On the differences between Jason Bourne and James Bond:
"Bond is part of the system. He’s an imperialist and a misogynist, and he laughs at killing people, and he sits there slugging martinis. It’ll never be the same thing as this, because Bourne is a guy who is against the establishment, who is paranoid and on the run. I just think fundamentally they’re just very different things."On why not commenting on his personal life makes him a better actor:
"The better the actor, the less you know about his life. “I mean, nobody’s better than De Niro, and you don’t know anything about him, right?” Look at Meryl. We don’t know sh*t about Meryl. Look at Clint. And Jack. And Brando. Marlon Brando—who f*ing knows, right?"

OK what is this arrogant fool saying - good actors keep their private lives private? Where does that leave Brad and Angelina? A lot was known about Marlon Brando's private life - that good sent some "Indian" princess to get his Academy Award? They just didn't have the tabloids and TV shows then. Maybe Matt cab keep his private life quiet cause no one gives a crap. He is boring. I saw a picture of Ben Affleck picking up his mail for God's sake - is that his fault? Matt can walk naked down the street and no one would bother taking any picures Does that make him a good actor? What an arrogant jerk.
Good actor or not, he's smart about keeping a low profile. Look at the "Bennifer" craze that happened. You can't say that it didn't take a while for Ben to recover from that fiasco.
Chris - your post made me laugh. He's seems like the least arrogant person in Hollywood. Totally down to earth. He married a bartender for the love of god. He doesn't hit the clubs or bed hop. He takes his jobs seriously and picks GREAT rolls. Matt is a total super star!

I think it's classy of him not to exploit his family. Maybe he took a lesson from Brangelina on how not to pimp your kids out.

I like Matt. I think he's a very smart man who has managed to keep his private life out of the tabloids, He's a GREAT actor. and i commend him for it. Whatnthe hell does Brangelina have to do with this? keep them out of the boards please and thanks.

I think he realizes that acting is a career and a job. Not a way of life. It is quite refreshing to see this.
really smart, good head on his shoulders and handsome.... what else could you ask for?!! we will be seeing him for years to come...he's no flash in a pan.
He's one of those guys that are just hard not to like. I actually don't think he's attractive at all, but I love his acting, his image, his loyalty to old friends, how he seems down to earth and real especially for the Hollywood circle.
And I do think it's true for the most part about the great actors. Great actors don't need cheap exposure like showing off your kids/dogs/houses/etc to the media to be successful bc they can actually rely on their talent. I love how he doesn't use his kid as just another trophy or collector's item. While I do believe she has good intentions, I think Angelina Jolie needs to slow down on the adopting if she really wants to be an effective parent. Even having kids naturally, you can only have 1 every nine months right? She picks those kids up like collector's souvenirs.

Hay. I'm for Matt all the way. Love his acting, he's real and he's hot. Privacy is difficult to come by, with so many nosy people in the world who use technology or just rude tactics to expose you. But Matt is the Man. Kind, boy next door, he deserves his fame. Great sense of humor too. Takes a strong person to be this great.
WEll I disagree with you gusy who ever thinks he's an arrogant jerk. he's not bragging about being an amazing actor, he does have a very good point actually. All actors and actresses who become really famous real quick and are in good movies get into the spot light and end up like paris hilton and lindsey... he is a good actor and a good person to his family for keeping things quiet.....
