Star Jones Admits to Surgery

If you believed that Star Jones Reynolds went from "full-figured" to "lollipop head" in a flash, with diet and exercise, raise your hand.

Nobody?

Bueller?

Okay, me neither. But the former View co-host has finally decided to open up and admit the truth what we all knew already -- she had gastric bypass surgery. In an interview with Glamour, Star said she avoided questions about her weight loss because she was "scared of what people might think of me."

"Everything about me was already so public (mostly my own doing — talk about dumb!), so of course everyone wanted to know what I had done," she writes. "I was also terrified someone would have a tragic result after emulating me without making an informed decision with her doctor."

Star admitted that her food addiction had gotten out of control and caused her to gain 75lbs in 17 months. “I used to look in the mirror and take pride in my figure, but that was when I was legitimately a full-figured woman,” she says. “I’d gradually gone from full-figured to morbidly obese."

So she went under the knife in August of 2003 and has lost 160 lbs since. Though, just like my very smart friend Judy always tells me, changing your outside doesn't necessarily change how you feel on the inside, and Starr found that to be true. Though the weight was gone, she still felt "consumed with the same anger, shame and insecurity as before." And because there is no surgery for that, Star headed to therapy to deal with her issues and says she has finally begun to heal.

Good for her. I hope she has learned that when you are in the public eye, and do something to yourself that is very easily noticed (like losing 160lbs), it's better just to come out and say so. We will have much more respect for you if you do.

She should have been up-front from the beginning. Everyone suspected she did it, anyway. Instead she lied about it forever. She could have expressed her concerns about people consulting with their Dr.s before making this big decision, right from the beginning. Instead she took the opposite approach, (so Hollywood) of lying about something so obvious. There's no shame in having GP. I just respect her less for the way she handled it. She looks too thin now.

There is something about her I never liked. Did she lie, or did she just not give straight answers for all this time??

Well good that she told the complete truth

Nancy Drew said:

It was wrong of her to lie--particularly when she's written a book on dieting. (Otherwise, it would be a private matter, but the book changes that.) I have more respect for Star now that she's admitted the truth.

stephanopoulos said:

Geez, it's not like she was the first to have it done. I think we would've respected her more if she had been honest.

QT said:

Good morning dear stephanopoulos -- yeah -- I agree with you -- honesty is the best policy . Me mum said she suspected it when she first lost a lot lbs. right away .

stephanopoulos said:

Good morning! Boy, you are up and at em earlier and earlier everyday. I hope you have a good one!

While I have nothing against people who choose gastric bypass, I think it's best to git er done on your own. Easier said than done though!!

QT said:

End of the month dear stephanopoulos -- have to get the bills paid . I don't know any over weight people so have no opinions on the stapliing . I still say come clean about how you went about the weight loss .

AJ said:

Don't worry about QT -- he gets plenty of sleep -- I think he gets a few zzz's at the boards . I like the Star - I think she could be a fun lady .

workinggirl said:

1) Star should have been honest from the start ( proves how arrogant she is to think that no one else could possibly be smart enough to figure it out)

2) How full of herself is she to really think anyone still cares about how she looks this long after it happened??

She is one of the most annoying people on TV!! Thank god she hasnt gotten any new shows!!!

Nancy Drew said:

Workinggirl (posting above) is incorrect in saying Star doesn't have a new show. Unless there's been some new development of which I'm unaware, she is to appear on Court TV again--I guess when the new season begins.

TO STAR, YOU CAME ALONG WAY TO BE A CELBRITY, DON'T LET THE ARROGANT CLASSES UPSET YOU. THEY TALK ABOUT JESUS CHRIST!! LIVE YOUR LIFE THE WAY YOU WANTED TO. DIETS ARE IMPORTANT STEPS-OUT OF LIFE. WE SHALL BE PRAYING FOR YOUR RECOVERY!!!!!!

Deb said:

She's still a glutton.

CELBRITY BB said:

HELLO MRS. STAR,
WE ARE PRAYING FOR YOUR RECOVERY!!! IT'S A BLESSING TO HEARD THAT YOU ARE WORRING ABOUT WHAT OTHERS ARE THINK. MY VERSE ARE NEVER WORRING ABOUT OTHERS WORDS, WORRING ABOUT TELLING THE LORD, OWN HE CAN DO ALL THINGS ON THIS EARTH!!!!

Jackie said:

This is a BIG FAT DUH!!! It's been common knowledge, it seems childish that she's admitting to it now.

Adrienne said:

Yeah, a big non-surprise there. Although I thought she might have gone the "liquid protein" diet route rather than gastric bypass. Wonder if Rosie will comment on this revelation?

Star is still unattractive even thin. Now her eyes bulge out.

Shamblee said:

Good "ole Rosy"allways stuck to her guns about Ms. popeye weight loss , Now ms. Christie alley should fess up to just how many pounds , she actually weight before her tremendous weight loss.

maggie93215 said:

Did she think the whole world was dumb? She only made things worse for herself, she felt self-consious about telling people that she had this surgery/ If you can't talk open and honestly about it why are you having it done! She didn't fool anyone but herself..

kit22 said:

Adrienne, the problem with liquid diets (or Physian supervised fasts) is that (despite what they claim) they screw up your metabolism. I've been on Physician-supervised fasts twice, lost all my weight twice and regained it all plus more TWICE. I had been working out and walking like crazy, spending 3 hrs. per day on exercise, plus working full-time. I decided I didn't want to spend most of every day exercising.I had been more than 100 lb to start, qualifying me for gastric bypass. I'm sorry I didn't do it. I've lost 50 lb. in the past year by cutting out all sugar, including pop and eating sensible portions of low-fat food. AND I drink 2-3 liters of H2O/ day. I think the water is the key. I also drink Oolong tea 2X/day, I think that helps, too. I'm on a sensible walking program with some swimming, so I'm not spending all my time exercising. I continue to lose, and feel better for it. It's better to lose weight slowly rather than rapidly like GBP or Liq. diets. CELEBRITY BB: Stop with the caps, already. ANNOYING!

Star Jones, Dont worry about anything people say, you do what you want with your body, they did not pay for it. they should shut up and live their lives. i loved you the way you looked before you lost weight and i still love you the way you look. And if that's what makes you happy, good and enjoy your life and husband. life is worth living.
It doesnt matter whether you didnt say the truth from the word go, you did not kill anyone. and remember Star Jones you cannot please anyone. Many people from Kenya Love you.

Rosa said:

Now you all leave Ms. Star alone, cause thats what she is a "star". You all just jealous cause you ain't got the money to perfect your ugly asses. Don't be mad at me...Peace out!

j said:

yeah...I think she's a little fugly now that she's so damn skinny...

I agree about the buldgy eyes. She's kinda scary looking. At least she had a cute face when she was heavier. Now, it's freaky.

kit22 said:

CELEBTITY BB are you crazy? Who the f*** is Titmouse? Your posts have NOTHING to do with the subject. Stop with the CAPS already. They don't get people's attention, they fr***** irritate them. Maybe that's your goal. I posted a huge response to the blog and no none responds to that. I think you're fr***** nuts. STOP the all Caps. It doesn't draw any attention to you except negative attention. Again, maybe that's what you want, and I'm playing into your hand.
As to AJ and QT: are you the same person? Always referring to the other one like you have an intimate (I mean that in the grossest sense)relationship. You always agree with each other AND defend each other's opinion. Frankly, AJ, I thought you were gay, from comments you've made. Not that I have anything against gays. I just don't like ones who hide in the closet and pretend to be straight. And what's this AJ/ Stephanopolous connection? You guys always support each other, no matter what the other one says. Creepy,

AJ said:

Now , now dear kit22 - we have a logical explanation , but maybe will keep you guessing . As for the CAPS - in the e-mail cyber world - it is shouting ! OK ?

heather said:

shocking - she gives me the heebie jeebies - and she looked better before.

Barney said:

AJ - bring the bride and stephanopoulos down to the pump house and we will play cards . Things are getting rough on this site and time to shut down the gates . Whatever way a gal wants to lose weight - let her do it .

Bacchus said:

AJ for shame - for shame -- someone says you are gay ???? Laugh of the day ! The software warriors are rolling on the floor . As for the Star lady -- I like her - she seems like a fun person if the show she were on would let the girl finish a whole sentence .

Anne said:

What's the big deal on how she lost her weight? It's really nobody's business what method she chose to lose her weight. She has a very pretty face and she looks good minus those pounds. I cannot understand all the fuss about Star Jones admitting to surgery. It's her body and she's entitled to do whatever she chooses. The View sucked anyway when Rosie was on it. Rosie was the dominant one who outshouted everyone. I'm so glad she's off that show.

Meliss said:

I knew she had something done. It was obvious!

ME said:

She is still ugly.Try a facelift next time.

kit22 said:

AJ, what do you mean? I don't understand your posting and what it menans. Clueless.

Laurie said:

Eventhough I have always liked Star, I am now laughing for it definitely took her "Long Enough" to admit what most people already suspected and/or knew!!!!

Laurie said:

Eventhough I have always liked Star, I am now laughing that this admission took as long as it has - most people had already suspected and/or knew the "Facts."

melissa said:

Hey stop judge her boy we all make mistake and what did God say to forgive and forget you young people Still don't get it you have alot to learn.

calling you out said:

kit22 - you dumbo ! - where have you been ? If you haven't figured out who AJ , QT , Barney , etc. is by now -you never will . And they are not - I repeat - are not one person . Comment : I was sorry Star Jones left the view -- loved her there .

not fooling anybody said:

calling you out - I have just about got it figured out - AJ , QT , etc. --several guys and girls who have their own business joined the Blabber . I think they live in Canada . Am I right ? Huh ??? I quit watching the view when Rosie came on .

That's just Star being Star! She acts like she is so superior to everyone else. That's just a cover up for how she really feels but, it makes her look and act like a b _ _ _ _! She needs to lose the superior act, shes just Star another women like us all!

stephanopoulos said:

kit22- All I know is, AJ, QT, Barney, expressions, Mista Boss Hogg, Tinkerbell, Bacchus and many others are very nice, intelligent, sweet people who make this blog one heck of an enjoyable place to visit in my humdrum days at work. We honor eachothers opinions and have a great time. Love for you to join us, that is if you don't accuse someone of being gay...who's married I believe! : )

Even though gastric bypass is an extreme measure to lose weight, I'm all for someone losing weight and being healthier. She looks great!

Jasmine said:

I don't think she owes anyone an explanation. It's her body, her life, and really....WHO CARES?????

pcinmd said:

Most of us would be shocked (well, probably not!) if we knew how many stars have had surgery of some type. Does anyone else think Star looks better bigger? She is pure ugly thin. Sorry...but her eyes look like they are about to pop out of her head, her mouth looks bigger, her eyes have wrinkles like someone 70 and she look much older. I'd take the weight!!!

suzy's big sis said:

trace, i've noticed a surprising dearth of pete & kate news on here lately. what's the dealio?

LOL!

sonee said:

Star... Just live your life for self. I didn't understand at first but I do now, You don't want to held responsible for someone else getting the surgery because of you. That's simple enough. All of this is a humbling experience, but you did what was best for you and plus you wanted to make sure it WORKED for you. I guess its a lot that goes alone with massive weight loss and success.Everyone weight loss affect each person differently. I'll keep you in my prayers.
