Owen Wilson's Attorney: "There Was No Overdose"

Contrary to earlier reports regarding the very sad suicide attempt of Owen Wilson, his attorney has told Access Hollywood that there was no evidence of a drug overdose. Police were called to Owen's house after the actor slit his wrists, however his lawyer said that the actor did not have his stomach pumped, and though Owen was taking anti-depressants, he was not aware of any other drugs in his system at the time of the incident.

In addition, the Santa Monica City Attorney’s office has announced they will not be releasing the 911 call made regarding Owen. Here's an excerpt from the press release:

“In reaching this decision the City believes that in many instances no person should have to worry about whether placing a call for emergency assistance will automatically make his or her medical request open to public review. In balancing the competing interests, the City agencies outweighs the public interest served by disclosure of the emergency 911 call. In situation such as this, the City concludes that the public is best served if medical attention is promptly sought instead of being delayed because of a concern, real or imagined, of public attention, regardless of whether that publicity is sympathetic or not.”

In other Owen news, the actor has dropped out of his latest flick, Tropical Thunder, currently being produced and directed by Owen's good friend Ben Stiller.

We're sure that, just like us, Ben just wants his bud to get better.

This is such a sad story. I just watched Behind Enemy Lines this past week-end. He was great in it. I wish him all the best.

As I'm sure this is an embarrassment to Owen, I hope he can recover from his issues and get right back to his career. He's a great actor.

Nancy Drew said:

He cut his wrists--are they saying that wasn't a suicide attempt? As for the 911 call, looks to me as though it won't be released due to his celebrity status. Let's see how accommodating they will be to regular folk regarding release of the calls. Same consideration should be given to EVERYONE--not just movie stars.

working girl said:

Um NANCY DREW- they DON'T automatically release ANYONES 9-11 call tapes for anything unless a court requires it for evidence!!

So how is respecting Owens privacy treating him different from any other "normal" person?

You are a SICK SICK person if you think that the call SHOULD be made public just to satisfy your own lust for "gossip" !!

Trash Queen said:

I am not critizing either Nancy Drew or working girl - they have voiced their opinions -- but la la land folks are not like us plain , old common folks - very likely this will skimmed over and finis' .

Nancy Drew said:

My comment was misunderstood...I'm NOT saying the 911 call concerning Owen Wilson SHOULD be released...what I AM saying is EVERYONE should receive the same consideration of privacy. I'm not sure working girl is correct in saying calls are only released by court order. If that is true, why do we often hear them a few days after incident takes place? I have nothing against Mr. Wilson, and I hope he makes a complete recovery. He's never been on my "gossip radar" though. I DID see Wedding Crashers, but liked it for the story--not because he was the actor playing the part.

Nancy Drew I got what you meant in your first post, and I agree that everyone should be allowed their privacy.

Sonya said:

I pray that Mr. Wilson and his family gain the strength to get through this tragedy.

When an individual "signs" up to become a celebrity, they are basically signing up to public scrutiny. We can sit here and say everyone should be treated the same, but that is impossible to attain. Our private lives stay private because we are average joes. Theirs are public and will remain that way, so they shouldn't whine and demand privacy when the small print forbids it.
That's just my opinion.

I cannot help but wonder which anti depressant Owen was on? I took Prozac and had suicidal thoughts many times as many other people have had. Drinking will affect the way the anti depressant works also. So Owen in his recovoery needs a really good monitoring of his medications' effects and also needs to think about whether he should use any type mind altering depressant---as alcohol is a depressant, not a stimulant. Say prayer for him that he gets the help he needs and can get on with a very good career.

Totally agree with Nancy Drew!

It is a sad story.Owen is a sweet and beautiful person, and always spreads light and fun and happiness in his films.I pray he recovers healthfully and regains his balance in his life.PAME is right about the attention and monitoring during his recovery, and watch what he is given, and stay away from the alcohol, it "puts a wrench in the gears" regarding emotional well-being.All prayers to his recovery.

I would believe in santa and fairy tales before I would believe anything an attorney would say. He's a spin doctor until the true medical report is shown.

I believe that although Mr. Wilson is a celebrity, and many aspcets of his life are avilable to the public, an incident such as this should be kept privateas a common courtesy and out of respct for him and his family during this time of healing .

He's in my prayers. I don't like to think of anyone who has made me laugh so hard feeling that low.

Things are better left this way, why should the tapes be released.. Media and doctors are just going to analyze every word that comes from his mouth what good does that do... He is getting the help that he needs hopefully..

This is pathetic, suicide is such a cop-out, did he even think about his family, friends and fans, what it would do to the people he loved. Apparently not, selfish jerk was only thinking of himself. And seriously how can it be that hard to rich, famous and loved, come on!

Big-T said:

Sad very sad.....

To Noodle == you are partly right == a suicide leaves a mess behind -guilt , anger the whole range of emotions === but is is still a sad thing .

As 911 tapes are public record ANYONE can hear them, just have to get a request form. Just like you can view anyones court transcripts.

None of us know what another person's pain might be like. Fame & fortune do not guarantee happiness----this isn't news. When a person is at the point of suicide, all that they can think of is ending the pain. They aren't in a place where the other considerations are regarded. Often, they feel like their loved ones would be better off w/out them. That can be very hard to understand for anyone who has never been to that edge.
God bless, esp. anyone hurting so much that thoughts of suicide enter their head.

Pame: I am a nurse and have repeatedly witnessed patients being treated for suicide attempts as a result of taking anti-depressant medications and mixing them with alcohol. I have a strong suspicion that was a major factor in Owen's case. It is a shame that something that is supposed to 'lift your spirits' and 'make you feel happier' ends up making you feel especially depressed to the point of suicidal thoughts and tendencies. I hope you are doing well and I hope more people are using caution when taking anti-depressants.

Nancy boy that 2nd posting you put up really set everybody on the right track, all you want to hear is the 911 call that was placed onbehalf of Owen you sick@%&%# need to find something to do with all your free time. Anybody who places a 911 call should never worry about it hitting the news the next day doesn't matter who you are or what you do. The only way it will be release is if a judge orders the release of it and not to anybody who pays a fee for the release of any 911 call, yes to a police report but only the one you had reported to a police officer, medical only parts will be release it is up to the doctor on what he will release - unless it is a court order. Now bad to the person who has found himself in a dark place - taking ones life does not solve anything all it will do is hurt those who love you or care for you. We all find that dark place and we all in time will find a way out. Give yourself as much time as needed. First step making time for yourself i.e cancelling his role in a film, take your tim

Suzie said:

Before I am jumped on what I wrote bad should of been back to the person (Owen)
It just shockes me how people jump on a story like this. Why does something like this hit all new stations, and gossip tv and papers (front page) nothing better to do than just wait for someone to fall flat on their face so it makes your world a little better. Lets give this guy who has made so many movies for us just so we can laugh, but in his personal life when he is down and can not see anyway out it is not a movie he is doing or feeling it is real his life a life that he should be able to keep to himself - just because he makes movies and we all know his face does not mean that we have the right to know what he does off camera. Can we just let these people have a life away from all the cameras and public is not enough that these people make us laugh or cry - want to dance or sing. Let them have a life away from the public so they can laugh and cry without everybody watching. Let them live a life - like we do as strangers.

Anyone who says that suicide is a "cop-out" doesn't know the feeling of clinical depression. I have been on both sides of the fence...I'm not saying any more here on this subject.

There is far too much that I could say but it is best to keep my own counsel.

I never knew Owen Wilson was having problems with drugs. I am really appreciating him as an actor, but right now I feel quite disappointed. I really thought he was a more serious person.
