Jon Stewart to Host 2008 Oscars
I guess Billy Crystal's busy.
According to People.com, funnyman Jon Stewart has been tapped to host the 2008 Academy Awards. This will be his second time as the Oscars emcee -- in 2006, he hosted the show... with mixed reviews.
"I'm thrilled to be asked to host the Academy Awards for the second time because, as they say, the third time's a charm," the Daily Show host said in a statement.
When Jon served as host in 2006, 38.9 million viewers tuned in to watch the show. While that's nothing to sniff at, Oscar darling Billy Crystal pulled in nearly 55 million viewers in 1998, one of the eight times he hosted the show. Rumor has it, show producers always go to Billy first to see if he's interested. The last time he hosted was in 2004.
The show airs February 24, which is forever away. Clearly I love award show season. I'll get a quick fix on Sunday, which is Emmy night. We'll be having a big ole party here at the Blabber, so be sure to stop by. Tracy and I will be together and we'll be live blogging the show. It's gonna be better than Christmas!

We love Jon Stewart -- I am so happy for him .
I am not sure if getting the Oscar gig is a blessing or a curse to a career. Good luck to him; he is funny enough.
I'm so glad he's hosting again. I didn't think Ellen DeGeneres was good at all and Billy Crystal is past his prime and doesn't connect with younger fans.
Jon Stewart is my favorite host. He's cynical and not afraid to make fun of Hollywood pettiness and elitism. Ellen was way too safe and I barely even know who Billy Crystal is.
nothing against Jon but, I like Billy Crystal?
We , too are big fans of Jon Stewart -- love his wit - everything about him . We will certainly watch .
2008...jon stewart hosting...that wouldn't have ANYTHING to do with it being a possibly historic election year would it? hehehe, i'm excited. i love him!
Love Jon - but "Really Really" MISS Billy!!!!

Stamford Ct,
Jon Stewart is so boring, I am surpised he was asked to be the host again.
I'm very very disappointed with you choosing Jon Stewart to host this years Oscars. He is such a COLD HOST. A very cold host. Boring, Frigid, Unappealing. His jokes are the worst I've heard. Considering this is the 80th Academy, you guys should have gotten Billy Crystal or Whoopi Goldberg. Watching it right now, I wouldnt be surprised if ratings will dip to record lows. Such a lousy show, the songs are sleep induced stupors. I miss those Oscars in the 90s where big production shows (Think singing That's Entertainment) and big stars galore (Think Tom Hanks presenting an award to Julia Robers)or Steven Spielberg having a film in competion , where Susan Sarandon, Goldie Hawn and Diane Keaton are seated to each other, where Celine Dion performs vis a vis Madonna...... Why My Oscar Why??? Please bring back the old glamour of the Oscars....Hollywood is all about big productions and great acting. It's nowhere to be found on this years Oscars!!!
I found Jon a generally boring and detached Oscar host, and his humor fell flat for me. I turned the show off after about 1/2 hour.
