Kiefer Sutherland Likely To Get Jail Time For DUI

Kiefer Sutherland Likely to Get Jail Time For DUI
Kiefer Sutherland is going to jail -- which is good because the dude has four DUIs.

The actor pleaded no contest to his September 24th DUI arrest, via his lawyer, and has released this statement:

"I’m very disappointed in myself for the poor judgment I exhibited recently, and I’m deeply sorry for the disappointment and distress this has caused my family, friends and co-workers on 24 and at 20th Century Fox. I appreciate the support and concern that has been extended to me these last weeks both personally and professionally.”

Kiefer is scheduled to attend a hearing on December 21st, where his sentence will be decided, but the Los Angeles City Attorney's office issued a sentence recommendation of 48 days in county jail, 18 of which he will serve immediately after the hearing, with the rest to be served over the summer.

Nice of everybody to work around his 24 schedule, huh? Can you imagine if you or I were like, "Yeah, I think I'll serve four days in January 'cause it's cold, then maybe a couple of nights in February, because I'll have nothing better to do, and I'll finish up right before I take my vacation in June?"

Wouldn't happen. But the FOX people are happy because now they can film a full season of 24 with no interruptions. Which is so important.

If it were anybody else the penalty would be a LOT harsher. I like Keifer, but laws are in place for a reason. Someday, someone is going to get killed. Being killed by a celebrity does not make you any less dead. Is the life of a celebrity worth more?

I've always liked Keifer but he has some serious issues. If jail is the only thing that gets his attention the judge should send him there and impose stiff penalties if the charges are reduced and he violates whatever the conditions are. Its for everyones good including his.

dr -- me thinks he will get at the most a slap on the wrist - and yes to Heather - if he were an average bloke - he would have been in jail a long time ago .

He is going to get the same treatment Lindsay, Paris, and, Nicole recieved... Maybe a day or so in jail, he may even have to go to a rehab center or something.. That is the way celebritism works!!!!

I wouldn't bet on this one, 4's a lot. Judges are starting to look like complete idiots. Good thing he's not in the carolinas or texas, those big boys play tough and throw the key away.

One doesn't need a map anymore to tour Beverly Hills. All they have to do is visit the local prisons out in L.A.

I hope people start suing the government for leniency on these high profile crap VERSUS abuse of the non PRIVILEDGED..............I can't imagine not doing plenty of time instead of the slaps on the wrist WITH 4 DUI'S - ANYONE ELSE WOULD DO HARD TIME AND SHOULD AND DEFINITELY NEVER, EVER GET THEIR LICENSES BACK, and the crappiest part of it all is that THESE LAWBREAKING SCUM ARE RICH ENOUGH TO HAVE A DRIVER ON RETAINER FOR LESS THAN IT COSTS THEM TO FLY TO MEXICO A FEW TIMES A YEAR AND DO DRUGS.......I HOPE THIS GUY GETS A YEAR IN JAIL TO DO THE OLD FASHIONED WAY, CONSECUTIVELY AND WITH A BIG STAR HATING BUBBA CELLMATE...........THESE CODDLED RICH SCRIPT READING SCUM NEED TO BE PUT IN THEIR SLIMY PLACE.....

So TOTALLY DISGUSTING!! Another celebrity who gets to work around the rules! WHEN will the courts get the message about the importance of drunk driving? They act like it's just an "OOPS!" every time!! I just watched a TV court show where the guy had had NINE DUI's and had never spent a day in jail!! So of course Keifer wouldn't be expected to, with ONLY FOUR!!!!!! (shaking my head!!!) Too bad there isn't ONE JUDGE who would stand up and represent the decent citizens who deserve to expect safe highways!! He would truly be noted as a hero! How can we get together to CHANGE these idiotic simple sentences?
I have a friend whose 26 yr-old sister was bringing home her 4 month-old twin baby from the hospital and they were both KILLED by a drunk driver, who walked away unharmed!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!

The real issue is....he's a major alcoholic and that's the issue that needs to be addressed. "FOUR" DUI's....oh my goodness...can you say "Red Flashing Lights" should be going off big time. The man needs help. I do agree that driving under the influence and getting caught 4 times....he definately should get more than a slap on the wrist...SHAME ON HIM!!!!! If it was any one of us regular people we'd be put away for awhile and made to go thru all kinds of counciling and AA meetings and never have a drivers license again. They are finally starting (at least) to dole out sentances to the rich and famous. For years they got away with everything!!!!

Nice to see our Hollywood stars doing their part to set a good example. I would be more understanding if it were one, but four seem carelessness.

48 days in jail and he picks the dates to serve? what the hell is wrong with this country?!? that is nothing and four DUIs that is something ... I do not care how good of a person he is cause knowing that he has a drinking problem ... the dmv should have his driver's license suspended and go to jail for more than 48 days and go to AA for life, etc ... that make more sense ... it is just so messed up!!!

As the late Freddy Fender song went - "Wasted Days and Wasted Nites..."
My God, 4 DUIs - Kiefer, you have indeed disappointed!!!! :-(

I can't believe Keifer has this problem. I get so carried away watching 24 and never thought the great Jack Bauer will be charged with not one, two, three but FOUR DUIs! Commom Jack, get your act together. and what's with him picking his jail dates? None of us get that treat not to mention the harsher penalties. Well, I still like Keifer and 24 is still my favourite series.

ARE THE LAWS SET FOR ALL OF THE REGULAR FOLK AND IF YOU ARE A CELEB OR PERSON WITH MONEY YOU GET OFF. WHAT GIVES... WE ARE SUPOSE TO ALL ABIDE BY LAWS THAT ARE GOVERENED BY EACH STATE. WHAT IS HAPPENING THE JUDGES ARE GETTING RICH AND FAMOUS IN THE PROCESS. YOU CAN NOT TELL ME THAT SOMEONE DID NOT PAY THIS JUDGE MONEY BECAUSE I WOULD NOT BELIEVE IT.

Celebrity favouritism issues aside, for the moment, I wonder has anybody else noticed how completely bloody ineffective (for the celebrity and the common drunk alike) the "program" (since there's only one 12-step game in town) seems to be.

Now, if only one or two guys "relapsed" you might make a case for it being the paitient's failure, but nobody, I mean NOBODY seems to "get it" the first time through (good for people in the rehab business, bad for the poor drunk looking for a little "help" with his or her addiction).

Of course, it's common practice to blame the addict if they fail to "work the program." The operative cliche is: "It works if you work it." Implicit in the disclaimer, conversely, is a position on the part of 12-step advocates, and a tenuous one at best, that asserts any failure of it to "work" is the addict's, not the program's.

Can you imagine how it'd be if cancer patients were similarly blamed for their relapses. "It's not the chemo, Henry, it's your piss-poor attitude!"
