Ellen DeGeneres Continues to Film Despite Strike

It doesn't look like Ellen DeGeneres will be making any friends on the picket line.
The talk show host continues to film her show, even though the writers are on strike. According to today's New York Post, Ellen said this during a taping:
"I want to say I love my writers. I love them. In honor of them today, I'm not going to do a monologue. [But] people have traveled across the country. They've made plans. They're here. I want to do everything I can to make your trip enjoyable and give you a show."
So, El's audience is happy and dancing, but the Writer's Guild -- not so much.
What do you think of Ellen's decision to cross the picket line?

I agree with her. People made plans and would be upset or angry if they couldn't see the show they had planned to see. And who would they be angry with? Not the writers! I love Ellen and sometimes you have to be in the middle with things, as she has done with this situation.
I like her alot, I think she is hilarious. But that shows lack of professionalism in my eyes. Other people had people coming to see their shows, but they aren't still taping....I like her a littl less now
well if Ellen has the talent and skill to put on a show by herself without needing material from the writers than what is she doing wrong?
unless she goes and hires new writers I don't see what the problem is!
I agree with her- I don't think she wants to hurt her writers but she also does not want to dissapoint her fans that have traveled to see her!
I think she did the right thing. If I had made a trip out there, and seeing Ellen was something I really wanted to do, I'd be really disappointed by her canceling taping. I get that the writers are on strike, but the world can't just stop because of it.
I think she did the right thing, not alienating viewers who bring in ratings. She did the diplomatic thing by skipping her monologue (the best part of the show) what more do people want?
Ellen is stuck between pleasing two people the writers and the fans... what would you do!!!!
Think of all the people who would be out of work if the show did not go one, not even ioncluding the writers! It is about all those people, too!
I think Ellen made a great choice it shows she really cares about her fans which come to think of it are her bread and butter so to speak. Sure the writers might be upset but i believe in the long run they will understand.
You guys act like Ellen had NO choice. Alot of other actors with shows much bigger than hers decided that it is more important to stand up for what is right....those writers deserve more fair treatment and by continuing to tape, it appears Ellen could care less. She should be out there with a picket sign, not in the studio
actually other "actors" with bigger shows are reliant on writers for ALL their material!
Ellen is not so why should she shut down when she can actually keep her show going on her OWN talent?
working girl stop picking on the people with greater and smarter opinions than yours.
On Topic: If she has her own material and can keep taping then I say go for it. Those other actors don't realize that their paychecks are on strike too!!!!
um STFU you told working girl that other people had better opinions but then you post the exact same opinion as her?
The choice to continue taping must have been a hard one for Ellen. I don't doubt that she can continue without the help of her writers. She has an amazing sense of humor. But she's also responsible for the livelihood of hundreds of people. Producers, Directors all the way down to lowly grips and assistants. These people have bills to pay as well. And on top of alienating her fans, do you think she could put these people out of work? Maybe she agrees with the writers, and is trying to show her support by taping without her monologue, but she has more than the writers to worry about because if she doesn't tape, more than writers will be out of work.
working girl.........I think you'd be better off on a debate blog because you NEVER value anyones opinion unless it matches yours to a "t." You have your opinion, and we have ours. Enough already.
callingyouout...or is it working girl? Sorry comments are different. Besides you didn't even comment on topic. Instigating will only get your comment removed, so stick to the topic at hand ey?
On Topic-I commend Ellen for her decision to continue taping. She has to feed all them animals somehow.
As a former union officer she would be called a "scab" .
Good for her!!! It is nice to see someone put their fans first!!
I think it was a hard choice for her. She is right, people are making the trip, and plans around her show. Maybe she can stop selling or giving out tickets after a certain date, so that no one will be planning anything, then she can join the strike.
I love Ellen
STFU - U GOT ISSUES
I don't think she qualifies as a "scab". That term was for the people that would temporarily replace the people that were on strike. She isn't replacing herself, since she already had that job before the strike. It is a no win situation for her though. My father once said to me: "If you try to please everyone, you wind up pleasing no one". Only time will tell if her move was a wise one or not.
Frank your comment was very intelligent - and my father once told me to treat others as you wanted to be treated but in this frightful society , that does not always work .
Well, Ellen's still have to entertain her audience but on some point she has to join the picket line.
ELLEN SUCKS AND HER SHOW SUCKS
Ellen, Leno,Letterman are all former stand up comics. For the $20,000,000 plus they make you would think they could ad-lib.
Ellens awesome. I love her for her gayness. You go Ellen babyyyyyyy
I love her! I think she made the right choice! Very brave act!
She is right. If the "STARS" of the shows really cared, maybe they might share in some of their millions; one less air plane, one less house, a few less watches. I really don't care what shows are on anymore. They talk green, but are they ???? Stop giving yourselves awards, give more to the people that work for you. Thank you.

She is a scab. You can never live that down. The strike will end eventually but no one will forget her for turning her back on the people that made her funny.
I dun think she was taking sides, she is stuck in between and did wad she thinks is best.
Maybe they should come up with something because they are as important as the host infact the people who helped put up the show are important too.
I think Ellen is doing the right thing and these idiots need to stop giving her all the negative press. What about Oprah, Rachal Ray, Dr. Phil etc..? Ellens all about her fans and it is very admirable.
When the Talk Show Hosts go on strike, then Ellen will be more obligated, and motivated, to join the picket line. But, until then, how she supports, and how much she supports the writer's strike is her own personal call.
Ellen needs to put out a video on carpet munching and call it "What a woman wants"...that would be cool!
Hey, I support Ellen in her decision to keep her audience happy. She's correct, it's not the publics fight, they should not have to pay for the disagreements currently being waged.
As much as I like Ellen, and as much as I agree that its not fun for the fans when their plans are disarranged, I must consider this:
If Ellen is doing her own writing and is a member of the writers' guild, then she is a strikebreaker. If shes not a member of the guild, she's a "scab".
As long as she does not hire new writers, then she is not "crossing" the picket line. Since she has done stand up for years, I am sure she is capable of doing the show. HOWEVER, if she is a member if the guild, then she should stop filming...
and...she is not a scab, because she is not getting paid to write, she is getting paid to host. Besides her monologue, I doubt that most of her show is written anyway, since it is a predominately live talk show.
I think it is wrong and she should be with her fellow workers... out in the lines
SHE DID THE RIGHT THINGS
SHE DID THE RIGHT THINGS
I'm your big fan! I created a forum on a nudist dating site called naturistspace.org and posted all my collections about you there,I'd like to make some like minded frineds...just hit me up with the same usename!
who cares if she did right or wrong? ellen can come to dinner at my house any day and we can have all the laughs to ourselves
go ellen! i love ellen. i love how she stands up for what she believes. that's a real woman!
Since the adopted dog incident, I don't think she's playing with a full deck of cards. Basically, I don't think her elevator goes to the top floor!
If like Oprah and Rachel Ray, that she doesn't use union writers then it's a mute point, however if she is a member of the Writer's Guild, then she has done the wrong thing. By crossing the picket line, she is taking the food out of the striking members mouths. If she was thinking of her "staff", she could have done what Letterman did and pay her staff from her own pocket. Letterman, O'Brien and Leno cannot "write" their own stuff during the strike because they are GUILD members and would be in violation of their contract. Hollywood has a long memory and it will be interesting to see who will side with her once this strike is settled, remember the actors will be stiking later spring early summer, so by standing by the writers now they will expect the same when they walk their picket lines. The best thing that can happen is for the writers to let Letterman back, an angry Letterman is the Writer's best weapon to end this mess, because come next year we will all have lost due to this strike.
the show should hire new writers and dump the old ones. Ellen doesnt have to cross anyone, it's the new writers that will cross that bridge when they come to it
