Tom Cruise No Longer Pulling in Big Theater Bucks

Remember the Tom Cruise of old? Top Gun, Days of Thunder, A Few Good Men, Born on the Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire -- classics. Tom was movie gold.

Now, it seems, the gold has tarnished a bit. Tom's new flick, Lions for Lambs, a political thriller, tanked at the box office this weekend, getting smoked by Jerry Seinfeld's The Bee Movie, which was released last week. But Tom's movie didn't even come in second, it ranked fourth, taking in only $6.7 million. Not exactly staggering for a new movie.

Maybe Tom should consider making Jerry Maguire 2 -- in effort to get us all back to the time when he had us at hello.

The ads for this movie were so boring that this doesn't surprise me at all. they were thinking that the starpower alone would be enough to pull us in.

I have read that political thrillers (particularly about war) don't do well. Let's face it...people want escapism, not more of the same.

No interest in Tom Cruise whatsoever...Boycotted all his movies. The man is a moron!!!!

While I usually like his movies, he's such an annoying celebrity anymore; I have no desire to see the movie.

I usued to like him but then he started talking about aliens founding the human race. He had to go.

I liked him in his Risky Business underwear days with the future Rebecca "dui 07" De Mornay. Now, he's a short, pompous, arrogant, dill weed.

Uhhh, Candy makes me think of Rebecca De Me-so-hornay.

I think it's funny how the media can create and destroy popular figures such as movie stars. The same people who "swooned" for Cruise now crucify him while mistakenly believing the change in their opinion is all theirs, and not the manipulation of the media.

The media is doing a reversal on Tom Cruise career and popularity. The idiot fans just think they dont like him anymore. Just like they thought it was their idea to say he was the greatest.

I even notice the public photo's of Cruise are now unflatering while in the past the media never used these kind of photo's when covering Tom Cruise.

Cruise did something to the powers behind the scenes and as such they are destroying his career. If you can call role as a celebrity a career.

I think that Tom Cruise sealed his own fate when he opened his mouth. He is a high school drop out, trying to educate the public on the dangers of psyciatry, when in fact, he can't act his way out of ...ANYTHING..he is an idiot, a loser, a bully, and the media only reflects what the public already think, they aren't intelligent to tell us what to think..The only people who are told what to think..belong in cults..like the weird one with Xenu...hahaha

I don't know about anyone else, but I've got TomKat burnout.

The primary reason Cruise has lost his 'box office bankability' is simply because his handlers lost control of him. The public got to actually see what this guy is really like...and he's a certifiable lunatic. No one believes his rubbish about psychiatry and drugs! No one believes that his marriage to Katie Holmes is legitimate. And NO ONE believes that Scientology is a real religion. His rantings have had such a detrimental affect on his career! It's nobody's fault except his own. I wouldn't walk across the street to see him for free.

Hooves said:

His crazy-assed personal life is overshadowing his career, plain and simple.

And, I think someone already said it, but political thriller type movies never do well, esp. during wartime. He was asking for it to tank.

I feel for Nicole Kidman, imagine having to me married to someone like him for 10 years. No one ever talked about his beliefs etc then, cos it was all wrapped up and kept secret. We have only learnt about the real Tom Cruise since the divorce.
He is quite arrogant and has about as much tact as a steam train, then again most celebs are, but his beliefs and his inability to shut up have tarnished his image and it will take a lot or BS and spin to get him clean again.
Once they're done with Tom, we should get them on Britney's case.

Tom Cruise still has all the money and all the happiness that most people will never have.

I will never go another one of this idiots movies, as I know he donates some of his $$$$ from making movies to his cult.
So to see one of Toms Crusie's movies or any other movies done by a cult member DOES MEAN you would be supporting $cientology.

Butthead said:

You can't buy happiness, Eva, but you sure can rent it. What's your going rate?

Tom Cruise is an uneducated spoiled looser who thinks people owe him everything. He is an unrespectful human being. He doesn't respect people for who they are. He judges people and he has no right to.

All Tom has to do is make good quality films and everyone will be kissing his ass again, no big secret. Nicole's lates husband I would describe as a little short in the credibility area. We all have our flaws.

Even if this movie didn't have Tom Cruise in it it would have not fared any better. It is quite difficult to watch a movie that demonstrates what we all already know, that no government is perfect. Do we really want or need to be told the obvious over and over again? I don't think that is the case, and the lackluster performance of this latest film clearly demonstrates that we are fed up with Hollywood treating us like naive children, like lambs to the slaughter. Pun intended. We want movies, music, tv, all other forms of media to entertain us. If we need to be educated we can watch the news, or heaven forbid go to a library and read up on current events. And even then take that with a grain of salt.
