This is nothing new. Most newspapers have obituaries written in advance notable people both locally/nationally/ internationally. That is one of the first things I learned in Journalism 101. Many newspapers are prepared for when someone notable passes away, so they aren't scrambling in the end.

Who cares? I certainly don't care if she lives or dies. Enough of Brittany!! She's a GROWN woman and knows right from wrong. I'm sick of hearing about her. She's a pathetic mother, she's disgraced her family and she continues to live the life of a spoiled brat. I have been in journalism for the past 5 years, nothing serious more freelance and press for bands. One thing I remember from my schooling was all major press outlets have the obits done for pretty much all of the famous as soon as it starts to look down hill.
Its sad and a horrible thought but the the storey needs to be ready to run ASAP.
Write in once and update as you see fit seems to be the moto.

I agree with Ronald and alot of the comments on this blog. Brittany has a publicist. She has a team of attorneys that counsel her daily. She's a grown woman. It's true in a previous comment that if family members or even her publicist, manager or legal team could get a court order and have her committed if they deem her a threat to herself. You have to remember, this negative attention is better than if she would have restarted her career with nothing. Every picture, comment and story earns her more money. Brittany's behavior has always been reckless and her actions those of a spoiled brat. She watched a horror movie while being drunk one night, ran out and married a childhood friend. They were married 52 hours? Then she married Kevin and there was news about her dropping her boys and driving with them on her lap. They were out clubbing all the time. She's never been a good mother or positive influence on her children.

It's not uncommon for the news to prepare an obit on someone they think has a greater likelihood of dying soon.

Hopefully these news stories will help trigger her into doing some self-evaluation.

Having worked in the news media (an ABC affiliate), this is not unusual--it's more the norm. The news media, especially the larger servers like the major networks newspapers and the AP, write and keep updated obits/photos/video footage on file for on all who are famous: actors/actresses, world leaders, business leaders, etc. That way the media is prepared and we don't have to scramble to piece together a story or any specials when one of fame dies. It's not morbid, just part of the business.

Oh My God! This obituary scheme is a gimmic to sell more papers. The Britt issue is hot right now and every media outlet is buying ito it. Britt and the media are raking in tons of money from folk that buy these stories and pay attention to her garbage. The courts already ordered a psychological evaluation when she had joint custody of the boys. She passed with flying colors. She would still be hospitalized by court order if there was any instability. She's just playing games with the media and enjoys the attention. She's in her 20's with two kids. I think we are probably missing the main issue here. This young woman's behaviour profile would have to suggest that she is suffering from a mental illness, one which can be treated. Take for example her drinking and pill popping, is this bad behaviour or an attempt to control distressing symptoms? Her erratic behaviour with her children, is this bad behaviour or something else? Sadly, if this is the case, the public's response shows us that in general as a society we still dont really believe in mental illness. We still regard many of the symptoms as "bad behaviour" and that people can in fact simply control those symptoms, "pull their socks up", "stop thinking about themselves" and so forth. If we understood Britney Spears behaviour as symptomatic of a mental illness and something for which she needs treatment, would we regard her differently? Would we regard anyone we understood to have a mental illness differently? Is the feeding frenzy that we see the press and fellow bloggers going on about Britney just another expression of our lack of compassion and understanding as a society for those who suffer from mental illness? The tragedy is that celebrities must live out their lives in public. Let's hope some good comes of this and we don't simply do the usual whipping boy thing and let yet another public figure be punished for our own lack of understanding, tolerance and compassion.

Having been a person who has had severe depression and anxiety on and off for my entire life, I can understand, somewhat, of what Britney is going through. But the one thing I do know is that you really have to hit rock bottom before you can start working your way back to the top. I don't believe she is getting the right type of help. As far as the obituary being written, so what? It may be creepy for some but what is the big deal? I say the only time you should concern yourself with that stuff is if it's happening to you personally. For the life of me, I can't understand what makes people so hungry for information about celebrities. Newspapers almost always write obits for celebrities while they're alive. It doesn't mean she's at death's door OR that the AP would like her to be, it just means she's famous enough that her death would warrent obit. Writers often put a celebrity's bio together in advance so that when an obit IS neccessary, all the groundwork has been done and they can publish a longish, well-researched article immediately. This isn't invasive papparazzi behaviour, I'll bet the AP has incomplete obits for a lot of celebs.

Tamsey: I wouldn't put Britney in the same sentence as Princess Dianna. Britney has done nothing to deserve that accolade. Dianna was sweet, warm to causes and a great humanitarian, Britney is all of the opposites.

All media has an obit for any celebrity or well known person in case of an unexpected death. There was probably an obit in place for Britney when she first became a known person.
