Critics Call Katie Holmes "Cringe-Making" in New Flick
The reviews are in on Katie Holmes' performance in her new flick, Mad Money, which opens today, and they're not exactly stellar, to say the least.
"And the cinematic comeback of the year award goes to…somebody other than Katie Holmes,” says a New York Post critic, who calls her return to movies since giving birth to baby Suri, “the most cringe-making return since Love Boat: The Next Wave."
Ouch.
The critic goes on to say, “Holmes, with Alice Cooper hair and crazy Jim Carrey eyes, looks terrible and acts worse, unless this movie is unintentionally a lobotomy documentary. Whatever could have happened to her in the last couple of years to zap the talent out of her like this?”
Variety and the Wall Street Journal didn't have very nice things to say about Katie's acting either. Now, I don't claim to have a library of Katie Holmes movies in my home collection, and I will admit that my extent of watching her perform is limited to her time on Dawson's Creek, but I certainly don't remember her being that awful.
Could it possibly be that Katie is getting thrown under the bus because of who she's married to? Or could Tom Cruise have actually sucked the talent out of her? I don't know, but I'm curious to see if I think she's really that bad.
My husband and I are actually getting a rare opportunity to see a movie -- in a theater -- this weekend (that never happens!), but, to be honest, we won't be wasting it on Mad Money. I'm dying to see Juno. Sorry, Katie.

Katie Holmes makes me want to cry. I used to love her as Joey on Dawson's Creek, and I have seen some of her movies, none of which were Oscar-worthy, but they certainly weren't cringe-worthy either. I used to think she was so beautiful, but with her nose job and gaunt frame, she now looks just as plastic as her BFF Posh. I don't know what is going on with her or her marriage, but I want to cry because she has lost whatever spark she used to have. Her eyes look vacant now, and you hardly ever see her really smiling. She always has a far away look with a pursed-lip smile, like she's posing but not really happy. I miss her Joey days.
Ouch. That has to hurt! I'm sure that critics are being extra harsh because of who she is married to, but I also don't think she should be adored or praised for who she is married to either. I never saw her in anything except for that movie with her and Benjamin Bratt and I thought it was terrible. Oh well, I'm sure she's not too worried about it considering she has Toms money to fall back on.
Is it just me, or in all the pictures of her WITHOUT her husband around, does she look happier? In the ones WITH her husband, she just has her "Posh" face on.... not smiling, more like smirking......
She's definitely "cringe-worthy" alright - simply due to the fact that she is probably "Brainwashed" with all Tom's/Scientology B.S. - Too Too Bad for Katie, she used to look nice and smile sincerely!!!! :-(
I don't remember her ever being especially good in a movie. I thought her acting skills peaked in Dawson's Creek, possibly because she was in large part playing herself. She wasn't really terrible in her films either, but she certainly never stole a scene. So maybe she's slipped, but it wasn't a huge slip.

Tomkat's team news are hitting all over the net. Interestingly laced by negative criticisms as if they're falling endlessly from the tower. I stayed awake last night reading and watching videos about the issues of Andrew Morton's newly published book on Tom Cruise, Katie's terrible look and awful acting and Tom's blockbuster scientology video. I enjoyed the night laughing at the hilarious responses everywhere. I pity the little tyke Suri though.
There is definitely a reason why people think Katie Holmes has been brainwashed/programmed by Tom Cruise. Before Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes actually seemed somewhat intelligent during interviews. This is a girl who got a 1310 on her SAT back when it was out of 1600 and who was accepted into Columbia University, so it makes sense that at one point she came across as smart. Post-Tom, however, her vocabulary seems to have shrunk dramatically. Her recent interview with Diane Sawyer was more cringe-worthy than any of her acting roles.
Katie Holmes has never been a good actress. I have seen her in Dawson's, Go, Thank you for not Smoking,Piece's of April and Batman. All of her performances have been "cringe Worthy." I don't think the critic is tearing her down because of who she is married to, he is tearing her down because her acting skill are sub-par. She is a beautiful woman, but she could use some acting lessons.

How sad. Tom's people are trying very hard to make Katie something that shes not. Shes not very pretty. Shes not very smart. Shes not even a good actor. Its just not working. They should both retire before this gets any worse.
Who do we contact to complain about the "celeb-mingle" ads? This is getting really sad. I can't say that I don't enjoy a little celeb gossip, and the comments that go with it, but those comments are advertising without paying. Not to mention just REALLY annoying.Isn't someone going over these posts to make sure there is nothing inapproriate?
