Dr. Phil Says Britney Talk Was a Mistake

Dr. Phil isn't regretting going to Cedars Sinai hospital to try and help Britney Spears out of her craziness -- but he is sorry he ever made a public statement about the pop star's condition.

In a statement to Entertainment Tonight, Phil said that Brit Brit was "dire need of both medical and psychological intervention," and now the doc is admitting that talking to the press wasn't exactly the best move to make.

"Was it helpful to the situation? Regrettably, no. It was not, and I have to acknowledge that and I do," the talk show host told his audience Thursday during taping of a Dr. Phil show, set to air Monday. "I definitely think if I had it to do over again, I probably wouldn't make any statement at all. Period."

Obviously Phil regrets all the bad press he got for getting involved in this mess, as well, but he's not admitting that. He swears, if Lynne Spears called and asked him to reach out to Brit again, he would. "How could you not?" he told USA Today.

Easily. I like to pick up the phone and say "no habla ingles."

Oh now he knows he crossed the line by making a statement to the press. Methinks the good doctor should take some of his medicine.

He is human, you know. No one expected Britney to get dragged off the the hospital. The family would accept any help they can to help their daughter. His mistake was he spoke his mind out loud to the press. Being in healthcare myself, I'm sure his statement is correct: It was a very big mistake to discharge her so soon from the hospital.

I'm glad he caught a lot of bad press for making that statement. He is an embarrassment to the mental health field.

oh please, he did nothing wrong. that is SO stupid to make such a big deal about what he said, it wasn't anything everybody didn't already know. Lynn Spears is trying desperately to push the attention on to someone else. Shame on her, Dr. Phil was just trying to help.

I dunno, Melissa. There are doctor-patient confidentiality rules for a reason. Helping her was good; saying a word about it to anyone was really unethical.

Dr Phil ROCKS! We need more people in this world ready to fight the good fight. So many people would rather sit back in their easy chairs and watch the turmoil in this world than stand up and take a part in making it better. Give this man credit for trying to help not only Britney Spears but ALL the other people in the world who want to make their lives better.

If we all took a page out of Dr. Phil's book and enlighten ourselves with what he teaches, so many would benefit. He teaches us to help others, to step-up and make our personal and interpersonal relationships better. He also helps people with severe handicaps, drug addictions, and maladies of all kinds. He is ONE person out there, in the world, trying to make a positive difference.

How many of YOU do that?

Way to go Dr. Phil!
