Madonna Refuses to Sing the Hits

madonnahits.jpg
See, now this makes mad.

Madonna is set to release her new album, Hard Candy, on April 29, and is rumored to heading back on tour this fall, but the Material Girl says you won't be hearing a lot of your favorite songs from her early career.

"I'm not sure I can sing 'Holiday' or 'Like A Virgin' ever again," Madge told New York radio station Z100, in an interview. "I just can't – unless somebody paid me like $30 million or something. [Like if] some Russian guy wants me to come to the wedding he's going to have to a 17-year-old, you know it."

Doesn't that suck? Whether or not you love Madonna's new stuff (me, personally, not so much), aren't those classic songs what catapulted her to such success? And nothing irks me more than going to a concert where the performers only play new stuff. We want the hits! We want to sing and dance and remember all the good times your music represents to us.

Seriously, if she's not singing "Where's the Party", I'm not shelling out the cash.

Am I being rash? Am I getting my rubber bracelets all in a bunch for no reason? How do you guys feel about this?

Being a huge M fan, I don't care if she'd sing friggin' opera; I'll be there with bells on in any case. That being said, I agree, Tracy. She could make that Herculean effort to sing those old songs for the sake of the millions of fans who brought her all her fame and fortune. She could at least squeeze out a few oldies.

Madonna is my favorite. I like her. ONnce I found her on a millionaire&celebs club called meetingwealthy.com. She has a personal account there with her pictures, blog...In her friend circle, some other stars can be found there.

I agree- those are the songs that started her -and what fans love- to make such a comment "maybe for like 30 million dollars"- that is just so snobby and arrogant! The only reason she is what she is now is because of those songs!

I think she is a STUCK UP B**** if you really want my opinion. It's like she's "too good" for her classic music. I can't stand her now. I used to like her back in the day. This is just another reason for me to dislike her. Good musicians never forget where they came from....

I'm just sayin'!!!!

Right on Tina B. It is like the old saying "don't bite the hand that feeds you!" Ever since she puts cones on her boobs, I haven't liked her or respected her. JD, where are you on this one???? LOL.

Well, Prince did the same thing. He refused to sing his old hits, and his tour sales suffered because of it. A few years later, I saw him sing "Lets Go Crazy" and "Purple Rain" in Kansas City, MO. She actually thinks she runs her career, she is mistaken, the fans do!!!!!

I am SO with you! I can't stand it when they don't do the backlog. I know it's redundant for them, but hey! that's the price of fame. The way I see it, playing what we want is their job. I feel violently strong about this!

I agree with the majority of the people here. I like her oldies best. Alot of her newer stuff sucks. Give me the tunes off her first, self-titled album or her "Like A virgin" album any day!

All I can say is Tina B., you got it pegged.

Well I can understand why she won't sing any of the old songs. I am sure by now she is sick of even hearing them much less singing them. But she could at least pick a few like 5 or less to mix in the concert with her new ones. I have not listened to Madonna in many years so I don't know what her new tunes even are.

And the release date for her album is my bday!

An artist goes on Tour to promote their new album, not material that is decades old. While some like the hits from yesteryear and some want the new, Madonna has always been an advocate for change and moving forward with her career and ideals that she is presenting.
I think she feels these songs do not have anything to offer for the future as they are too far from the past.
I don't think she is a person to promote living in the past either.

Madonna also got to where she is by doing what she pleased and not caring what people thought.

In which case, she doesn't care if you aren't coming because of the above reasons, in fact, she'd probably prefer u stay home and pull out the record player...

At least she's letting you know in advance. I would think it to be worse if everyone went EXPECTING her to sing those worn out tunes and then not get them.

Where's the Party is beat.

Seriously, Madonna is making new music for a reason, she's an artist.

If you don't respect that you don't truly respect the artistry of music.

And again you should probably just stay home.

I'll be there to see what message Madonna has this concert.

I'm there to see an ever-changing and ever-growing human being through her art.

I'm not there to expect her to be a jukebox.

neither should you.

I am so with you, I liked her for being original, taking the chances that she did, and I think, that she thinks she can do what ever she wants to do, and the fans will except it. Well she got another thing coming because this fan has totally lost it for her. I guess she did forget who put her were she is today!! She has been going down hill anyway, most of her music that she's being doing is not that great at all, I've totally lost interest in her and her music. She will start falling by the wayside, her fans will not put up with her BS

thats just not fair:{i mean really bring back the old stuff!!:}

I am a big Madonna fan and I saw her last concert and I liked it a lot. I love all her songs from the past. I like her new songs too, but its still a thrill to go and see her sing her old ones. Its nice when the singer mixes old and new. She always ends her concerts with "Holiday", its a shame to stop that tradition. But, I guess she feels she needs to move on now. Whatever, she is still great!

I WOULD NOT SHELL OUT THE CASH FOR HER "NEW" MATERIAL!!! I would go to concerts such as hers, the Beastie Boys, Van Halen and so on to relive my youth. I had so much freedom and fun in my reckless youth!!! I really don't care for Madonna's new music to be honest. I saw her "Blonde Ambition" tour which albeit was good, she said as she left the stage, "THANKS, HOUSTON, YOU ALL HAVE BEEN GREAT!!!" Too bad she was in DALLAS when she said that, she came out and did a couple of more songs to "apologize" she got booed. I don't think she should shelve her hits that MADE her who, what, and where she is today. She needs to get over herself....

One less fan now.

that's lame. artists are supposed to please the fans, not themselves. plus, she's the one who picked the songs earlier so if she has a problem with them, it's just that- her problem.

Cindy said:

SHE IS JUST TRYING TO FORGET HOW OLD SHE IS, JUST LIKE SHE IS TRYING TO FORGET SHE IS AMERICAN BY SPEAKING WITH A BRITISH ACCENT! WHO BUYS HER NEW STUFF ANYWAY???????? SHE IS WEIRD!

Madonna is trash.. yes she can sing, but so can a lot of others who are not stuck up and/or trashy. and yes she is weird. why on earth does guy stay with her???? he could do so much better!!

tiny said:

Has anyone considered that Madonna just might not be able to hit the higher vocal range of her youth and the songs would lack their "pop" from earlier times?! Come on people, she is just shy of 50!

Elisa said:

It's no wonder that she doesn't want to sing songs for 20 years in a row. I'd be sick of it too, and annoyed that no-one came to hear my new songs. That said, I agree that she could do two-three old songs in a concert.

sheila said:

She hs enough money, so what does she care if she don't ever sing again. She is smart and has proble invested some of her dough in stuff besides her self.

Also, she is older and has children, so I can see where is might have trouble singing her old stuff. Do you still do the samething you did twenty years ago?

Jazzy said:

I used to like Madonna but she has gotten very stuck-up and full of herself.

I could see her singing more new songs but she should definitely be singing a bunch of her older songs too. Especially the most popular ones.

That was really interesting and eye opening. Now I like Madonna even less. If she did that its really ashame and I hope she has to pay for it somehow.

That picture of Madonna reminds me of the old blonde guy in Priscilla Queen of the Desert, as she looks like a guy in drag.

Ali said:

I just wish she would stop singing, what a waste of time she has been.

I am not into her new stuff so I wouldn't want to go to a concert where I couldn't hear it! Bad move, Madge!!! Never forget where you came from or what (or who) helped you get to where you are today!

I think that it's about time!!! Come on, if you want to hear "Like A Virgin" go buy Madonna's Material Girl album.
