Mariah Carey: I Have Low Self-Esteem
Mariah Carey has a brand new album out and she's making the rounds to promote it. In the new issue of Allure, Mims talks all about the misconceptions the public has of her. And with her new album entitled E=MC2, Mariah, not exactly known for being an Einstein, wants to get all the jokes out now.
"It's a dichotomy, I understand," she tells the mag. "I understand that people think I'm a ditzy moron.”
And though she doesn't do much to dispel the rumors that she's not the brightest light in the bunch, she does make it clear that the assumption that she is a loose woman is way off.
"I'm Mary Poppins: I'm what the button-up girls are supposed to be," she swears, mini-skirts and boobs flailing aside. Mariah says she's never had a one-night stand and considers herself a "freakin' prude."
"I've always had really low self-esteem, and I still do," she admits. "What's weird about that is being onstage, and the love that you get, and the adoration that you feel from your real fans. It's hard for a partner to compete – just imagine," she says of her single status.
As for her past relationships, like with, oh, Derek Jeter and Eminem, not to mention ex Tommy Mottola, Mariah isn't talking. But there is, apparently, a lot to say.
"Not to quote Swingers, but 'we all have stories.' I got a freakin' miniseries in me."
Maybe she's saving it for her book.

Why is it always the people who have the personality of a brillo pad are always insecure and sensitive?
Without "self-esteem", this world will eat you up...
She seems insecure, although she is very beautiful..that's too sad. Goes to show you money can't buy everything. Maybe she was in a bad relationship or even had a difficult childhood. When people tell you something enough, you start to believe it. Especially as a kid.
How difficult it must be to be a performer on stage with a low self esteem problem. Must be painful. Good thing she is very talented and very beautiful. I wish her only the best.

I think the reason she has a low esteem is because she is African American, Venuezuelan on her dad side, and her mother was Irish, and she was very poor growing up in inner city New York City. I can relate to her low esteem since im of Black/ White race and Ive been a minority in a mostly White neighborhood, but the adversment has made me a stronger person.
I think to pin in on the mixed heritage as the foundation of her low self-esteem would be over simplyfing the issue too much. I think we all know people in all races who have low self-esteem and it seems the entertainment industry is littered with these types. How they go on to be entertainers is a mystery to me. I do agree it begins at home, and her father wasn't around, I think many see parents not being in their lives as a rejection of them themselves. I think girls need their fathers to be the first to validate them as important women. The same I think goes for men. I do think many single parents do raise successful kids who have healthy self esteem, but for the bulk of kids we need parents who are good role models and have healthy relationships to lay the framework before we become adults-who encourage us and give us positive comments so we can develope positive psyches.
Denzil Washington, Samuel Jackson,Will Smith all great actors with high self-esteem. That just a few. What does being an afo-american have to do with low self-esteem, all races have their share of people with low self-esteem. All races have their share of star haters who are jealous, right J.D. You believe an extremely talented singer like Mariah has low self-esteem I'll sell you some swamp land, you have been punk'd. Extremely rich, extremely talented, life can't be that bad for her. I wouldn't throw a pity party for her yet.
someone who has dated derek jeter and eminem does not need to confess they have self-esteem issues.
Self esteem isn't about who you are and whom you're not. It's about how much you appreciate who you are, and how much you accept whom you're not. It's all about how we perceive ourselves, and whose standards we apply. The decision is up to us.
Mariah is hot! She has no reason to think that she is anything another than a beautiful, successful, and extremely talented woman. there are so many negative nancies out there trying to put her down, but I love her.
