Mariah Carey on Tommy Mottola, Her Breakdown, & Her Diva Status
Ah, Mariah Carey -- she's always good for some notable quotables.
The music maven has a brand new album coming out -- the aptly titled E-MC2 -- and is doing lots of talking about her life. When asked by Parade mag what she thinks about being called "a diva", Mimi just lets it rip.
"They throw that word around like it’s a figgin’ Frisbee," she said of the tag. "I grew up hearing it because my mother is an opera singer… The actual definition is a ‘talented female singer.’ Definition two is a ‘difficult woman who is successful,’ I believe. So I take it as a compliment."
Mariah also opens up about her tumultuous marriage to record exec Tommy Mottola, who was rumored to have been extremely controlling during the seven years they were together.
"That part of my life always remains with me, because it was so intense," she told the magazine. "But part of that is my fault, for allowing that relationship to kind of linger – or dare I say, fester – for so long. I grew up with such dysfunction that I assumed I didn’t have a right to a happy personal life."
An what about the crazy breakdown she suffered in 2001? "My life was in such shambles, because I had allowed it to become a shambles," she said of that period.
But, like the diva she is, Mariah climbed her way to the top with her 2005 smash album, The Emancipation of Mimi, and is poised to have her 18th No. 1 song, should she top the charts with her new single "Touch My Body".
"You know what? I guess I am a diva in many ways," she said. "When it comes to certain things, yes, I can be difficult and a little bit rigid about what I want. Am I demanding? I don’t think I’m demanding enough. I think if I were more demanding, I would have felt that I had some sort of power as opposed to feeling like a pawn, which is something I had to grow out of."
I love a woman who embraces her diva status. I can only dream of being referred to as something so cool.

She has a nice voice, but terrible body,sense of style is prono chic and she has a child's face. Nothing pretty about her.
I liked her better before it was "all about her looks." Like when she first came out with "Someday" she was down to earth and gorgeous. She is still beautiful though and talented.

Get a rich man that lives outside the USA. Do not become Rapper used trash please. Date otside that industry. You really have it going on, that is why so many people are jealous of you. Anyone who is in their forty's, what did you really know about love, life and the pursuit of happiness when you were in your 20's. Life is always evolving, some couples grow together, most don't make it. One seems to always outgrow the other.
Is she a little nutty? maybe, but...Beautiful woman, beautiful voice. She has a voice unlike alot of these stars who can only carry a tune. She IS a DIVA!
MARIAH IS ONE OF THE BEST SINGERS AROUND. I LOVE ALL HER SONGS FROM THE BEGINNING TO NOW AND HER NEW ALBUM IS GREAT!!! THE SONG "SIDE EFFECTS" FROM E=MC2 REALLY TELLS WHAT REALLY WENT ON WITH HER MARRIAGE TO TOMMY AND THAT SHOULD BE HER NEXT SINGLE FOR SURE. SHE REALLY HAS OVERCOME HER BIGGEST OBSTACLES AND IS REALLY BEING BLESSED NOW AND I WISH HER ALL THE BEST BECAUSE SHE DESERVES IT. IM A REALLY BIG FAN OF HERS BECAUSE SHE'S DIFFERENT FROM A LOT OF SINGERS OF TODAY. I HOPE THE MARRIAGE TO NICK WORKS OUT BUT IT SEEMS TO ME THAT HE IS NOT MATURE ENOUGH FOR HER BUT I HOPE IM WRONG. I think she is becoming what her marriage with Tommy was like. If you think of it he was very "controlling" and now she is very very demanding what the hell is her problem and I hope she reads this but ummmmmm I hate the way she is treatin Nick he dont deserve this type of treatment. Mariah you are beautiful but you are stank also!!! If you look at it yes her apperance is stunning but her attitude and the way she treats her so called "husband" is not! You would think her last marriage would of made her think different only goes to show it didnt!
