As a former Constitutional Law professor, civil rights litigator, and community organizer, I don't know that there are many people as patriotic (without being ethnocentric) as Obama. Thank you for listening to that. You are right: he is a unifier of this country who understands and is willing to talk about the legitimate concerns which underlie a lot of the racial tensions in this country so that these concerns can actually be addressed. Moreover, he is able to raise interest and pride in people (myself included) who would otherwise survive going through the motions of daily life only doing the occasional good deed or writing the occasional check, and who are now living life more active in the political process and the betterment of their communities.

He sounds genuine and seems to have the intelligence and energy to focus on the real issues with unity in the US, or to listen and be advised on what they are and then address them openly.

We can all take a lesson from that...and any leader that raises awareness of current issues of the people and discusses a plan to address these issues and then does so after elected is for the people; he appears to have great awareness of others.He is also elegant and articulate, and presents himself confidently and sincerely.

Hilary might make a good V.P. :) Both these candidates are clearly intelligent diplomats that wish to make a difference.

Personally, either one of these two would make me brief a little easier about the leadership of the US...

Barack Hussien Obama is a racist pig. He has many things in mind for the US but helping the people to make their lives better is not one of them. I think he will destroy our country from within. He sounds fake and seems to have no intelligence at all. He'll be down in the oval office with his buds. We all know who they are.

I don't think I'd mind Hillary as VP or a top adviser. I didn't like that she stooped to scare tactics with her TV ads, since that's how the current administration has attempted to justify so much of what it has done, but I am willing to overlook it since running a campaign is very different from running a country. I do think she'd be a great asset to the Cabinet. Like you said, she is intelligent and very driven.

I agree with some of a bloggers comments I don't think Obama has experience that a president needs to run our country. He does not look or act presidential in any way. He has no clear answers for what he is going to do. I do believe he shares the same ideas that his former pastor does. You can't be with a person for 20 years and not know what they stand for. Wright is a white person hater. George Bush is leaving this country in a royal mess. We need a strong leader to get us on our feet again. Obama is not a strong leader, he has a lot of baggage. His wife is also a person I could never trust. I don't believe either one of them has any respect for this country. We are already in a mess we can't afford another bad president. I don't have any faith in Obama, Hillary or John McCain.

I think it is so stupid to even put on here that Obama is Brad Pitts 9th cousin. I don't think either one of them should be proud of that.

It's a sad day for our country when a man with no experience and no morals can be considered for President. The only thing he has going for him is he looks good in a suit. But to add insult to injury is the fact that he is a distant relative of Brad Pitt. I can't really say which one has the raw deal on this one.

Gender bias is very acceptable all around the world, and it's been rearing it's ugly head in the democratic primary.

Generally, I think it's a good thing for the most part, that our society has an open, friendly, often humorous dialog about gender. It's better that tip-toeing around our differences, as we often do on racial and religious issues, afraid of saying the wrong thing and causing offense. Most of the time, I wouldn't find a lot of this stuff offensive.

On the other hand, we have allies, such as Saudi Arabia, where women are beaten for being raped, aren't allowed to drive a car, or attend school. There are practices like arranged marriages, honor killings, forced abortions, sexual slavery, and female castration that we, as a world power, should be more outraged about, more proactive to end than we are.

I wonder how many people know the percentage of women who are raped and/or victims of domestic violence during their lifetimes? 1 in 3 women will be victims of sexual assault during their lifetimes. Women in some countries are still treated as property.

Women have had to fight for the right to vote, own property, and a lot of other rights men took for granted and still do. You can say a lot of things about Hillary Clinton, but you can't say she hasn't been an advocate for women and children her entire life.

So, yes, I take gender slurs against the first woman to have a serious shot at the presidency of this country seriously. I don't think they have a place in the discourse any more than racial slurs against Obama. Denigrate her for her policies or her integrity, but not because she's female. Not this women - not at this moment. It denigrates all women. Like her or hate her, all women deserve this one small concession in the dialog. Women's suffering is usually the last to be acknowledged or addressed.

I'm not some rabid feminist, but I am extremely proud that a women has broken through and come so close to leading this country, but just like there are ignorant people who won't vote for Obama because he's a black man, there are people who won't for for Clinton because she's a woman, and I've encountered quite a few of them. They call me "honey" and "babe" and tell me not to get emotional, while lacing their remarks with references to shrillness, pantsuits, and crying for votes.

In this election, for once, we should be as sensitive to gender slurs as we are racial slurs and be proud of these historic candidates we've selected.
