Jay Leno Apologizes For Remarks to Ryan Phillippe
Jay Leno is trying to pull his foot out of his mouth long enough to make amends for his offensive remarks to Ryan Phillippe.
"In talking about Ryan's first role, I realize that what I said came out wrong," Jay said in a statement to People.com. "I certainly didn't mean any malice. I agree it was a dumb thing to say, and I apologize."
Ryan, who's first role was as a gay teen on the soap One Life to Live, looked like he wanted to crawl under the couch when Jay asked him to give the camera his "gayest look," and refused to participate in Jay's reindeer games.
On Tuesday, GLAAD gave props to Ryan, but dogged Jay for the remarks."We are proud of Ryan for refusing to participate in Leno's thoughtless attempt at humor," said GLAAD President Neil G. Giuliano. "Under the guise of comedy, the talk-show host is demonstrating a lack of respect for the gay community and insensitivity to both his co-workers and the audience, to whom he owes an apology."
Hence, Jay's apology.

Wah, wah, wah. I wish people would just get over this "Oh, I'm so offended so you must publicly apologize for being so insensitive" bit. It's comedy. It's not like a gay has never made fun of heteros. Oh no. Never.
While it seems silly, it offends people and I'm glad he apologized.
Mmmmm, it seems he is very interested in dating wealthy young guys. I saw him on millionaire&celeb dating site "SeekingRich.com" last week.
I too am annoyed that everybody is so quick to judge Jay for a harmless joke and yet there are stereotypical comments made about ethnic groups and people from the south everyday.
I agree, Irritated.
I really don't see the big deal, but then again I'm not gay. I do have a few gay friends and we joke around alot..Some of the guys call the others 'flamin', just silly stuff...I really don't see the big deal.
Let me just add that I like Jay and I think it was funny! He's funny! It was a joke..
