Wesley Snipes Gets Three Years in Jail
Everybody has to pay taxes -- even celebrities. And, if you don't, you're going to jail. Simple as that.
Actor Wesley Snipes was sentenced to three years in jail, after being found guilty of tax evasion. As the Florida judge read the whopping sentence (which was the maximum), the people in the courtroom gasped, but Wes showed no emotion.
"I'm very sorry for my mistakes and errors. I apologize to my family, the court and the community," the actor said. "I've asked the court to show me mercy and the opportunity to make things right."
He also had to pay $5 million -- of the reported $41 million that he owes the government -- at yesterday's sentencing.
That is so much money that I can't even begin to wrap my brain around it. Did he bring it in a suitcase? Did he ask, "Would you like that in tens and twenties?"

How smart is he now, Pete Rose did time for tax evasion, why not Wesley. I don't remember Pete owing anything close to $40,000,000. I would bet that the I.R.S. takes his money and property to collect, they shouldn't let him bargain down.

They give drug dealers a slap on the hand for dealing drugs to children.But, they put someone in jail for tax evasion. I think that he should just have to sell his stuff and pay the IRS rather than go to jail. This is such BS!
Give the brother a break. The government has some nerve talking about what he owes! What about the fact that the government still to this day owes African Americans acreages and mules. Wes can have my slaved ancesters portion to put towards his case. We shouldn't have to pay a dam thing to the government, they undercoverly is still Jim Crow. This is ludicrous. Let him pay the money, not go to jail. We have real criminals on the streets, violent criminals, people who are abusing children and animals. Wesley is not a violent man. Save the prison space for violent offenders.
Wesley Snipes is one of the few actors you don't hear a lot of things about. He's a gifted and talented actor. I don't think he should have been given real time, he should have been placed on probation and given the opportunity to pay his taxes. I know he already had opportunity, but I wonder is it the color of his skin that got him time and not probation. Our judicial system is far better than any other country that I've heard of, however it isn't perfect and its not color blind. Of course $40 however much it was is a lot of money. Did he get bad advice from someone, or did he just think they would over look it? I live on $750 a month, I can't possibly imagine what it would be like to owe that much in taxes, I mean thats not how much he actually made, its how much taxes on what he made, that he owes. Maybe the judge was jealous of what Wesley makes and owns and said to himself, "Oh no you don't, I don't make that much money and won't in a life time, brother you are going to jail." This has nothing to do with race. Your ancestors were treated unfairly, are you being treated unfairly? I think not. You were not tracked down, and you were not sold into slavery, by white men! African Americans tracked down their own people and sold them into slavery. White men did buy the slaves. African americans sold their own for a huge profit. Many people have been put in jail for tax evasion. Do you honestly think only black people get in trouble for tax evasion. Taxes suck but we all have to pay them whether we are black, white, rich or poor. Thats just the way it is.

I am a fan of Wesley Snipes. Don't get me wrong,but can you imagine how much money he had to of made to owe 40 million dollars. I mean why didn't he just pay his taxes. He could certainly afford it. Remember the very rich, no matter what color they are, are already in a different tax bracket, they can claim everything on their taxes, honestly, they don't get taxed for gas, food, all those expensive cars. If everyone knew the truth they would be saying, throw his ass in jail and throw any of these unbelievably rich people in jail, if they can't pay the few taxes that they do get they deserve to go to jail,,,, no matter what color they are. The rich are not taxed the same as the poor, and the middle class gets taxed more and less tax breaks than anyone. The government does not want there to be a middle class America, they want it to be the rich and the poor,,,,,, to better control the poor. Look into it. Trust me, Wesley has been given enough tax breaks.
That is totally true Incognito. It's not like he is going to be stuck in jail with murderers and rapist. He will be baby sitted for way less than 3 years. I will be very surprised if he actually serves 1 year. Now if I get in trouble over taxes and I go to jail, I am going to be thrown in with everything under the sun. Anyone with brains can see that this is not about colour, it is about the fact that Wes broke the law, by not paying his taxes. Yes it sucks to pay taxes but we all have to at some point of our lives. It may suck, but it's life.
The sickening thing about it is, he of all people can afford to pay taxes, yet to chose not to. Yes he can be made to pay it back rather than go to jail, but then who is going to be the one to be made example of, to deter all these other rich tax evaders???
