that makes me sad for some reason.

Jacki, i guess the reason is that all the love songs they made were just a sham for this couple. I thought their love would keep for ever and for always. Am sad too:(

As a "huge" Country music fan...I never did see what she saw in old man "Mutt"...I never thought it would last as long as it has...He is the one who made her "famous", but she can do way better than him...Sorry "Mutt"...

Maybe it is like the Celine Dion thing, her guy is old too, but THEY are a couple I could not ever see apart~

all the songs that she sang so reflected their marriage and now, it's over...... after 14 years.

Maybe it wasn't a sham. Maybe it was real. Maybe it just didn't work out. I know lots of great people who are divorced. Doesn't mean they weren't once in love. It also doesn't mean one of them was at fault and is no longer a great person.

Please. She just used him to get him to write and produce songs for her that she took the credit for! He probably ran out of material, so she's moving on. Either that or she's done with the music career and doesn't need him for that anymore. She is the biggest phony and fake I've ever heard. She changes her stories in every single interview she's ever given~~all to give herself more and more credit for whatever the subject might be at the time. Starting with her claiming she gave up her career and "raised" her siblings when their parents died, as if they were babies or toddlers . Then we find out that they were all grown with the youngest being an older aged teenager like 16 yrs old! That hardly constitutes "raising" children like she originally claimed and I'm sure she received gov't assistance since their parents died, so she probably didn't even have to put off her career either! But then again, maybe she didn't since those "little children" were actually grown adults that should have been working themselves! Either way, I have never believed a word that she says, so I'll never believe her reasons for getting a divorce. The reason she wants to keep it private is probably because it won't make her look like a saint like she thinks she is.

Princess, I'm sorry but don't you think she would have left 10 years ago if she were just using him? He may have got her started, but I'm sure after a few hits she could have brought her music elsewhere.
Do you think a 16 should be left alone? Sure he/she can go get a job at Burger King, but how will he get there? Where will he live? Who will take parental control? The point is that everyone needs a little help to get started, if not kids will end up making terrible decisions and take a lot longer to get on their feet.

Princess is quite the mean-spirited snake in the grass, isn't she? Bet her husband, if she ever had one, couldn't wait to high-tail it out of there, or wishes he could! Hope she doesn't have any children, or they'll be in therapy for LIFE.

Shania Twain took care of her siblings so they wouldn't be split up, with nowhere to go when their parents were killed in a car crash. How anyone could find "fault" with that is beyond me. This woman needs to have her fingers disabled and her mouth taped shut.

Thanks to all the kind and compassionate people who have commented here. Gives me some hope for the world. I am surprised that Shania & Mutt are separating, but surprised that it lasted this long. Who knows how things will turn out. You never know and I wish them all the best, including their six year old son.

PEOPLE.com actually has it that her husband called off the marriage, saying that they just grew apart and that she is devastated -- she didn't see it coming. Her career was taking off before she met him. She didn't need him to get her career going. He was with her through her most popular times though. It would be hard to live with a recluse. He was a very to-himself kind of guy.

I wish both of them the very best. Split-ups are always hard, especially when there are children involved. Let's just hope they can stay friends enough for their son.
