Jennifer Aniston Named Favorite Cougar

johnjenpoolside.jpg
Now this is upsetting to me.

I was at the beach with my friend Emme yesterday and, while we were admiring the young 20-something, tanned and toned lifeguards, when got into a conversation about how old a woman is before she can be considered a "cougar" -- you know, the older woman on the prowl to date the younger man. Em alluded to the fact that we (ages 32 and 33) were very close, if not already there.

"No way," I said.

When I think of a cougar, I think of Samantha from Sex and the City, a woman at least in her mid-to-late-forties. So, imagine my surprise when I returned home from my girl's day to find out that Jennifer Aniston, 39, has topped a list as one website's Favorite Cougar!

JENNIFER ANISTON?

I might have to cry.

But, here's the catch -- Wowowow.com defined the very popular term "cougar" as "a woman, typically 35 or older, who is in a relationship with a man who is younger than she by eight to ten years or more." So Jen fits the bill, considering she's hooking up with John Mayer, who's only 30.

You know who else is on the list? Halle Berry, Demi Moore, and Madonna.

I guess, if the ridiculously hot and sexy Halle, 41, who just had a baby with the gorge Gabriel Aubry, who is ten years her junior, is being considered a cougar, then maybe Emme and I should just embrace the term. I'd like to be grouped with Halle, Demi and Jen any day. But weigh in here, how old is a woman before she can be considered a "cougar" -- and tell me if you think the term is offensive.

I think if women are going to be labeled "cougar" then men should be labeled something!! Let's think up a good name for men over 35!!

I think that it would be nice to be considered a "cougar" when I get to that age. Though my hubby is only 6 months younger than me. I think the word is well meaned even if it sounds harsh.

I am sorry but men over 35 who are dating women 8-10 years younger than them (besides of course our faves: Johhny, Sean Connery, etc who are always going to be the men every girl wants.... ) are going to be considered an insurance policy... lol. Its the truth. Women seeking older men (for what reason?) can only have one motive in mind. Unless extremely well endowed the men can only offer a girl a sense of security.

She is so beautiful. Her blog and photos where found at milllionaire&celeb datingsite ---" celeb mingle.com"last week. I am wondering what kind of relationship she is seeking on that site.

I think I might be a bit too young to really comment on the subject yet (just completed 23) but as far as I can tell - my boyfriend is a year and a half younger than me - younger men are a true breath of fresh air for us, serious and mature women. They're more energetic and fun, and ain't what life is supposed to be? :)

We women are all "Cougar's" in one way or another, no matter how old we are. Older men are considered "Horndawgs" when they get old and start looking for women 20 years their junior. At least we stay in that 10 year range. I love Jen & John together, besides Jen still looks like she is in her early thirties easily..John is a lucky mna, and I think he knows this.

If women at cougars, then men are baracuda's

If women are considered cougars, then lets call men baracudas

There's only a 9 year difference. What's the big deal? Men have done this for generations. They're both adults afterall. Look at Demi & Ashton.

If there has to be a label at all "Cougar" sure beats the heck outta "MILF" -- I hate that one

Jen is so much prettier than Angelina. Brad is an idiot. I am sure it is killing him to see her with someone better than him. I hope they have a long loving relationship. She deserves all the happiness in the world after what she has been through. I hope he is the one!

Bella said:

Not offensive at all. I believed they descibed it correctly and it's basically saying a woman dating a younger man is hot and daring enough to do so!

What is a MILF????

At 38, I've dated men in their early 20's and loved every minute of it. Call me whatever you like, just keep the boytoys coming!!

I HATE the term "cougar" It implies that a woman who dates a younger man is like an animal. I mean the term for men who date younger women is "men". It's considered normal and acceptable and society doesn't find a need to label that situation. Sure, MUCH older men who date MUCH younger women like James Woods (ick!) are just gross, but for the most part a man who date a woman 9 years youngers is considered normal. Why do they have label women who do the same? It is not meant to be a flattering term although I beleive confident hot women like Demi and Halle have embraced it.

I would have also associated the term with upper 40s and beyond women, after all, it does have a derogatory sound to it in my ears, definitely not neutral. So I would use it just in the same way as I think it is disgusting if a 70 year old man dates a woman who could be his granddaughter. So a woman who is old and wants to feel rejuvenated dating someone not for a substantial relationship on equal terms, but more for physical reasons probably. If I use that description, then non of the named celebs (Halle, Jennifer...) fit into the category, because they are not old spinsters trying to get back to their teenage years, for them, I suppose it merely happened by chance that their boyfriends or husbands are several years younger. So for me, a vital ingredient is then that the cougar is deliberately looking for somebody very young in comparison to her.

Oh, and by the way, if you have a second to spare, please visit my new blog http://www.sunnykidstyle.com/ about stylish design for kids and feel free to give me some feedback. I'd really appreciate it :):)

How about preying mantas for men since they normally eat their partners after mating. Typical male behaviour.

Becky said:

Doesn't "Cougar" just mean the woman is older? I don't think there needs to be a huge age difference between them. I dated a man 2 years younger than me.

Guess said:

I think a woman in her thirties is a cougar if she is dating someone that is under 25. Otherwise, there is no way a woman that age can be considered a cougar. I would consider Demi and Ashton a Cougar and Cub but not Jen and John. Aren't most of us just getting started in our 30s anyways?! (p.s. i turn 30 this year and can't wait). The older I get, the less I care what others think and the more I care about my own happiness.

Linda Hogan is a cougar...not Jennifer, Halle, and Demi. Linda Hogan is dating someone went to school w/ her kids. YUCK!!

Allison said:

I think 35 is a little young-- but definitely 40+.

Linda H is like one of those Dads that comes on to your girlfriends at a sleep over....creepy stuff.

35 can't be a cougar, still a cub really!

Jen is beyond labels I think, and good for her!

I think the term "Cougar" is meant to be flattering to the woman.

Its almost like payback in my eyes. Explanation:
In our younger years: If a girl sleeps with more than one guy she is labeled "easy" or other non-flattering names, but if I guy does it - he's the man and everyone worships him.

Now as an adult its the reverse effect with dating younger or older individuals: If a man is dating someone 8 to 10 years younger than they - they are pervs or having "a midlife crisis" But a woman is considered a "Cougar" (meant to be flattering)

John wooed Jennifer and she thought, why not, she`s single and can do what she wants, so she might as well have fun while she`s waiting to meet the right guy for her.

She is just passing time and having fun with John, She knows that he`s not husband material.

The best revenge she has is that Brad & Angelina are stuck with each other for ever. Poor Brad, he can run but he can`t get far.

I just turned 54 and seem to always attractive much younger men...38 to 46. I wasn't even familiar with the word until a guy called me a cougar & I had to ask my daughter what the term meant. It is not intentional on my part to attractive men that much younger, although I have to say it is extremely flattering. I take very good care of myself and I am definitely a lot more confident about my sexuality than I was in my 20's or 30's. I say if a woman has it; flaunt it and enjoy it while you can!

I am in my mid 40's and engaged to marry a man 20 years younger. I would have never sought out someone so much younger, but this works....the best, most solid, most " non-drama " relationship I have ever had. Call me cougar all you like...I am just glad that I can call myself HAPPY !

vargas said:

Personally, I hate the term. I don't understand why there needs to be a label on anyone? Why? What's the point? Older woman and younger men have been getting together for decades. It's just that now people have decided to focus on it. Whatever.

I am 22 and currently dating a 31 year old and I love it. Everyone thinks she's a cougar, but I still say its just a normal relationship. I actually prefer older women because they don't have as much drama and they know exactly what they want. Young girls my age are crazy. I can't handle their screwy games and messy lives. I think dating older women is the way it was ment to be; men die 10 years before women, and men's sexual needs peeks 10 years before women. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's just how I see it.
