Luke Russert Talks With Matt Lauer About His Dad

I've just spent the last 15 minutes sobbing over this video of Today's Matt Lauer speaking with Luke Russert, the only son of Meet The Press host Tim Russert, who suddenly passed away on Friday. This kid's grace and eloquence is amazing -- but the stand-out moment was when Matt stressed how much Luke's dad talked about his son -- and how everyone knew how much Tim loved Luke.

Watch this beautiful tribute -- and don't forget to tell the people in your lives how much they mean to you.

It really was a beautiful and moving tribute. My dad was also gone far to soon and every Father's Day is bittersweet. You're thankful for the good times but the loss never really goes away. Take the time to appreciate your loved ones because you never know what the future holds.

We all felt we lost a member of our family with Tim's passing. What an excellent conversation we watched this morning between Matt and Luke. I'm glad to finally meet him and hear he and his Mom will be "ok". The picture of him with his Dad's chair was so touching. Matt did a beautiful job speaking to Luke not only about his Dad but making sure he knew how much he was loved. Luke lost his Dad, we the public lost a family member and Matt and others at NBC lost a friend....I'm sorry to all of you. Hug someone you love everyday!

The coverage of Tim Russert's death was often overblown, self-congratulatory and self-indulgent.

Tim Russert was, shall we say, not a very popular while he was alive, he was routinely castigated as a Bush lapdog.

“I now know more about the pompous king maker Tim Russert than I do many members of my family.”

After Russert’s shocking death Friday at age 58, television kept serving up witnesses to his expertise, intelligence, diligence, kindness, faith, love of family, Buffalo and the Buffalo Bills.

Is the grieving process going on TV? On 06.16.2008 “Today,” Matt Lauer interviewed Russert’s son, Luke. The show basically gave over the first half-hour to the Russert story. I am shocked at the publicity tour of Tim Russert's grieving son.

Presidential candidates aren’t questioned at such length on morning programs. The self-indulgence was breathtaking.
