The Dark Knight Lights Up The Box Office

There was nothing dark about Batman's big weekend, as The Dark Knight opened to a huge, I'm talking huge, numbers this weekend.

The Christian Bale/Heath Ledger flick took in an estimated (and astonishing ) $155.3 million, crushing the second place finisher, Mamma Mia, who didn't do too bad for a normal movie, making an estimated $27.6 million. Here are some of the other impressive figures the Caped Crusader is responsible for, courtesy of Eonline.com:

  • The Dark Knight made more money in Friday midnight screenings ($18.5 million) than its predecessor, Batman Begins, made in any one day.
  • The Dark Knight made more money in one day ($66.4 million on Friday) than Batman Begins made in any one weekend.
  • The Dark Knight made about as much money in its second-biggest day ($48 million on Saturday) as Batman Begins made in its biggest weekend ($48.7 million).
  • The Dark Knight made more money in its third-biggest day ($39 million on Sunday) than Get Smart and You Don't Mess With the Zohan, to name two recent hits, made in their respective opening weekends.
  • The Dark Knight made more money in its biggest day than Hancock, WALL-E and Kung-Fu Panda, to name three recent supersize hits, made in their respective opening weekends.
  • The Dark Knight made more money in its opening weekend than the previous top-three-opening Batman movies (Batman Forever, Batman Begins, Batman Returns) made in their opening weekends—combined.

Jeez, the Batphone must be ringing off the hook for comments.

I loved Heath Ledger and probably will not see the movie. This picture just bothers me. I'm sure he's amazing in the role, but it's just sad the way things had to end for him. I hope he's in heaven enjoying all of the accolades he is receiving for his work. What a sad end to such a bright star. RIP Heath.

One of the "BEST" movies I have ever seen...I will see it again, and will buy it the second it comes out!!! "WOW"..."Heath" was great in it...He will win many many "awards" for this..."Too bad" he is gone long before his time..."Damn", I still miss him...I have never felt such a "loss" over any other "actor" that has passed away in my time...

RIP Heath...

The movie was realy good. It was sad when he first appeared because you realize he is gone. It was creepy to watch. Throughout the movie he wants to be killed. Just sad! He was great and will be missed.
