Christina Applegate Cancer Free -- Had Double Mastectomy

Wow!
A very brave Christina Applegate has undergone a double mastectomy to rid herself of any chances she would have to deal with breast cancer again in the future.
"Sometimes I cry. Sometimes I scream, and I get really angry and I get really into wallowing in self-pity sometimes, and I think it’s all part of healing," she admitted of having the surgery. But the actress, who announced earlier this month that she was battling the disease, can say now that she is "100%" free of cancer.
"I'm clear," the Samantha Who star told Good Morning America in an interview airing Tuesday. "Absolutely 100 percent clear and clean. It did not spread. They got everything out, so I'm definitely not going to die from breast cancer."
Such a relief for Christina, who opened up to GMA about how she initially reacted to the diagnosis.
"I was so mad," she admitted. "I was just shaking and - and then also immediately, I had to go into... 'take-care-of-business-mode,' which was ... I asked them, 'What do I do now? What - what is it that I do? I get a doctor, I get a surgeon, I get an oncologist? What do I do?"
The actress' mom also had breast cancer, which led to mastectomy, when Christina was just a kid. Having the family history, Christina did what she was supposed to, and began getting mammograms at age 30.
Pretty smart -- because it probably just saved her life.
"I watched her have a mastectomy, and then I watched her go through two years of chemotherapy and eight surgeries and a hysterectomy," Christina said of her mom, who she called "a quiet warrior. I've watched this woman survive both of those things, so for me there was always that sense that I was going to be okay, no matter what."
As for reconstructive surgery she'll undergo over the next few months, Christina has managed to keep her sense of humor. "I'm gonna have cute boobs till I'm 90."
I'm so blown away by Christina's openness and bravery. What an inspiration.

Wow Christina! Way to go girl! I am terribly proud of you for hanging tough, doing what needed to be done, and moving on with your life! Your amazing spirit and calm quiet personality sure did get you through this one! What a brave person to go through a double M. (((((((hugs))))))) I'm SOO glad you beat this ugly beast we call Breast Cancer!!
God bless this beautiful person for her courage and honesty. I hope she will be happy and fulfilled throughout the years.
My grandmother also had a double mastectomy. God only knows how painful it is to go through something like that. Kudos to Christina for facing and conquering one of the worst diseases. It's people with strength like hers that I admire greatly.
It seems as though Christina has her head in the right place. It is good to see that she is not going to let this get to her.
I am so impressed that Christina made this information public, when men and women and especially those in Hollywood are so breast obsessed. It was the smart thing to do because chemotherapy and radiation wreak havoc on your body and with her family history, it was definitely the right choice.
I hope I am as brave as she was if it ever happens to me and she did a real service by making women wake up.
If cancer happened to Christina, it could happen to anyone, no matter what your position in life, wealthy or poor.
I am so proud of her for taking control and not letting the cancer take hold of her!! What an awesome role model for future breast cancer patients...I too hope that if I am ever faced with a situation like hers that I can be as brave as her. She has truly came out on top and kicked that cancer in the butt!! Great job Christina and God Bless You!
Christina,
My husband called me from work to tell me about this article. I am sorry that you had to go through that experience. But mostly glad that you are 100% cancer free. I too have had a double mastectomy and radiation - 4 surgeries over 3 years.
I have often wondered if it would ever happen to a woman in the entertainment field and how would they deal with it. And I see that you have dealt with it in the same manner as I... trying to find the strength to keep courage and yet having those crying/dying spells.
My best wishes...

Such a brave soul!! You will definitely serve as an inspiration to those many women who are battling breast cancer today. Wishing you the best!!
I think that she made an incredibly tough decision, and glad that she is here to comment.
My father had esophogael and colon cancer before he passed away. It's a disease that you know if you are diagnosed with it's going to get you sooner or later.
I truly hope that your new breasts suit you well, so that you can get on with life.
Brave girl!
Best of luck to you!
