Don't give them TOO much credit for donating the money to charity!! I read a long involved report about how they donate it to their OWN charity, which gives the money back to themselves (where THEY decide what to spend it on), and then they also don't have to pay taxes on it! Jeni, yes, they do get a deduction for contributions made to their charity or any other qualifying organization. To qualify for the deduction, they must relinquish control over the property contributed such that no part of it comes back to benefit themselves or any other private individual. Also, bear in mind that they do only get a deduction, which means that the contributed money from the pictures is not taxed. No other earnings of theirs get any sort of beneficial tax treatment as a result of this contribution. People do not make money via tax savings by contributing money to charities.

Passing less than 1/3 of its funding to those in need through lesser known more legitimate charities like 'Doctors without borders'. This is why you will not find any Hollywood charities listed at CharityWatch.org. Or any other top rated list for that matter. Legitimate charities do legitimate work and operate on low overhead. Celebrity Foundations squander the bulk of their funding on crap, do little or nothing tangable, pass only a fraction to those in need, and still garner much more attention and ultimately PROFITS for their figure heads and respective industries then for any specific humanitarian cause. So this claim they make to bring about 'awareness' is truly a sham.
