Anti-Scientologists Protest Katie Holmes' Opening Night

katieholmesbdwy.jpgSee, now this just makes me feel bad for Katie Holmes.

As Katie prepared for her opening night on Broadway, a group of masked, anti-Scientology demonstrators staged a protest outside the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in New York City, where Kate is starring in All My Sons. The group, Anonymous, consisted of about 20 people, who shouted, "We are not boycotting Katie, we are not boycotting the play, we are protesting Scientology. It is evil. Scientology kills people. It follows you home at night. It is perverted.”

Apparently this was a planned event, as organizers of the group had told UsMagazine.com weeks ago, “We are going to be there not only in protest of The Church of Scientology. We would love to see Katie Holmes get away from this evil cult before it's to late."

What bugs me about this is that it was Kate's opening night on Broadway -- she'll never have that first time again -- and it has to be overshadowed by these people. Couldn't they have waited until tonight to do it? At least let her get all of her nerves out.

I may have to show up outside the theater tonight with my own "We're Not Gonna Protest!" sign.

something tells me that if she's heartless enough to join that cult, then she probably didn't care.

Even with the protestors being there, I heard that Katie had a wonderful performance.
And if you would show up with your own sign, then go ahead -- the more the merrier! If you're lucky enough, you'll see the provocateurs that Scientology sent. They were handing out pamphlets identifying protestors that they uncovered through PIs and stalking... They also tried to engage fights on several occasions.

If these people have such problems with Scientology I suggest they not join. I don't agree with the "religion" myself, but I very much disagree with a protest at the opening of Katie's play, which had nothing to do with Scientology. Protest outside of a scientologist meeting, or gathering or something to do with Scientology to get your message across. That video that was posted, made the protesters look as bad if not worse than the scientologists.

I'm glad Katie was able to ignore them and had a wonderful opening night.

glad to see them protest a cult that will go as far as to murder those who leave.

I was inside the Barricade with this great group of kids. It was my first time protesting anything I thought was wrong. I am an Atheist. I may not be able to do anything about 2000 years of established belief, but if I can help educate people about what I think is avoidable harmful nonsense, I shall do so. Space Emperor Xenu? Thetans? Please! The assertions by Scientologist commentators in blog posts that they / we were paid by some evil Pharmaceutical cabal is rubbish worthy only of some paranoid delusional science fiction novel. I work 70+ hours a week at a real job to support myself. It is sad and alarming that Scientology has now reduced the sum total of their movement to a bizarre rant against Prozac. And they get tax exemption status for that? I was inside the barricade when one of the suspected Scientology agitators came up to us saying "Lets go raid the Org, let's go break all their windows!" He then attempted to push his way into the barricade past a female protester. He placed his hands on her to bodily move her out of the way. If it wasn't for the quick response by the NYPD, this could have been a serious case of assault by a suspected Scientologist agitator on one of our members. Just by luck we caught this guy on film and I hope we may eventually ID him much in the same way Scientologists have ID'd protesters by photographing them. What is really scary is that the Scientologist internal paramilitary Security organization (OSA) has been reported to follow protesters home and stalk them at their places of employment, while Scientology affiliated law firms issue protesters with cease and desist notices. I am an American citizen. I Refuse to live in fear of what I believe to be a dangerous cult!

Again, if you're so against Scientology, don't join. Leave the innocent theater goers alone.

As many many of the money cults followers showed up for the play what a good site to protest at their actions at.
