Paula Abdul On Leaving Idol: It Wasn't About the Money
Paula Abdul says her reason for walking away from American Idol wasn't all about the Benjamins -- it was about being a survivor!
"I had to stand on my principle," Paula told TV Guide in a new interview. "I'm going to miss the experience of watching young talent evolve into a place where they get to take off and soar."
"I stand on principle where many people stand on money," she says of her decision to leave her post on the Idol panel. "I'm a hard-working artist. I've lasted in this business for 23 years. And you can't do that unless you are good at what you do."
"I believe in myself and you have to have your own self respect," Paula added. "And sometimes decisions are very difficult to make, but I've always believed that at the core I'm a survivor. There's not one thing I've done that I've really set my mind to that I've failed at."
As for what's on the horizon for Paula, who will forever be our girl, the singer/dancer says she'd like to gab!
"I definitely want to do a talk show because it would be different," she says. "It would be a lot of fun variety with a ton of unexpected stuff and tributes to everyday people getting their big chance."
Would you watch a Paula talk show? And do you really think her quitting the show wasn't about the paycheck?

in a word.... No
It wasn't about the money.....right.....NOT! She's ticked that they didn't agree to, most likely, the outrageous sum of money that she asked for. She may have been in this business for "23" years, but about 1990 she fell off the radar...never to be seen again til she showed up on American Idol. She won't realize how good she had it until she fades from the limelight once again.
She says there's not one thing she's done that she's set her mind to that she's failed at - so, basically she didn't set her mind to make any of her marriages a success?? So, what - personal failures are ok; just not professional ones? Hollywood is a whole other planet!
uumm...
she was getting paid 1/6th Simon's salary. I know he produced the show and all, but it comes down to a lack of respect. so was it about the money? sort of. but i think it's more of a respect issue.
i think whichever way she went, she would be alright either way so if this is her way-she knows what she is doing, thats my thoughts about it
I go with Paula with whatever she says! She is my alltime fave and she definitely knows what she is doing. Atta girl Paula!
Maybe it wasn't about the money, actually, but it may have been about the lack of respect that was shown with the denial of the money. Now, all seriousness, her being paid only a sliver of Simon's money and probably less then Randy as well, would make me upset. And let's not mention Kara, how much does she get paid?
i think her reason for leaving was not because of money but because of simon...think about it...?????
