Angelina Jolie was on hand to celebrate World Refugee Day in Washington on Thursday, where she spoke about her dedication to teaching her children about the world's problems -- and what they can do to help.

"Some of my kids are from countries that have seen conflict," Angie told CNN's Anderson Cooper. "I usually just explain to them that there are other families in the world that aren't as fortunate as ours and other kids and their mommies... are somewhere in a country that's not as safe.... So I tell them that it's important for all of us to do what we can and then go to these places and understand what's happening."

Brad Pitt's love says she's determined to give her brood first-hand knowledge as to what life is like outside of their very privileged box -- in hopes of making them "better people as they get older."

"They're just being raised that this is the normal thing to do," she said. "Hopefully I'll take them to as many countries as I can and raise them with an education of the world."

Dude, you've got to hand it to the Jolie-Pitts for setting some example for their children. I feel accomplished if I've managed to get through the day without saying a curse word in earshot of my son. Angie is on a whole different plane.

Just get in line and maybe Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie will throw some cash your way, too.

The mega-generous couple's Jolie-Pitt Foundation has just donated a million dollars to the UN Refugee Agency, in order to help displaced people in Pakistan.

António Guterres, the head of the agency graciously thanked the couple for its donation, saying Pakistan's trouble is "the most challenging humanitarian crisis of the past decade."

Angie will be on hand for the celebration of World Refugee Day in Washington D.C. on Thursday, where she will talk about her experiences from her multiple visits to Pakistan.

This donation comes just a week after Brad and his fam donated the same amount to a hospital in Springfield, MO.

So, are we done badmouthing her yet?

The do-gooding just keeps on coming from Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

The classy couple, along with the rest of Brad's family, have donated $1 million to a Missouri hospital.

Doug Pitt, Brad's brother, announced that they would be giving the cash to St. John's Hospital in Springfield, and that it will be used to establish an endowment fund to pay children's cancer specialists.

The hospital's cancer treatment unit will be renamed the Jane Pitt Pediatric Cancer Center, in honor of Brad's mom, who is a big advocate for children's issues.

St. John's is matching the generous donation, providing the hospital with the help to also build a new pediatric unit, a 10-bedroom hospital-based Ronald McDonald house and doubling the size of the neonatal and pediatric intensive care units.

It's stuff like this that just makes you proud to like certain celebs. It's such a nice change from one DUI story after another.

Prince Harry is coming to town!

The young red-headed cutie is heading to the United States this weekend for his first formal visit. Harry will be doing good all over town and will even get in a polo match while on U.S. soil.

In honor of his visit, we've put together a slide show of the Prince's already-very accomplished life.

Check it out!

Would you shell out $55,000?

That's what someone paid to kiss Robert Pattinson at the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS 2009 benefit auction Thursday night in Cannes.

Director Harvey Weinstein put the Twilight star's cheek up for grabs and a very generous parent put up the cash for their daughter's one second of heaven.

"There were two bidders who paid 20,000 euros each for their daughters to have that kiss."

"Harvey put him on the spot, in a playful way," the source said. "And Rob agreed to it in his usual brooding, modest way."

So, those lips took in $110,000 -- for two cheek kisses!! Dude, he is hot, but if I'm showing that kind of cash, I want lip-to-lip contact. AT LEAST!

I just thought this was beautiful.

Sharon Stone hosted amfAR's annual Cinema Against AIDS event in Cannes last night, where she honored former co-amfAR worker Natasha Richardson. The actress died from a head injury in March, resulting from a ski accident.

"This year we lost an angel from our amfAR family. It was one of those random events that leaves you in a state of shock and profound grief. In March the funny, graceful Natasha Richardson was taken from us," Sharon said. "People say, 'Oh, she can't really have been that great or graceful.' She was. 'That funny, charming, sweet and elegant.' She was. She left behind her husband and two stunningly beautiful children and an unfinished mission to help us find a cure AIDS."

Getting teary, Sharon then introduced a film highlighting Natasha's work with the charity before reading a letter from Natasha's husband, Liam Neeson, who urged everyone to continue giving.

Annie Lennox performed, "Talking To An Angel," then said, "That was for Natasha."

Just lovely.

Do you think you should have been born wearing a tiara?

Well, get your best outfit ready and buy your tickets for the second annual Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic in New York, where Prince Harry will be making his first formal visit to the good U.S. of A.

Mark it on your calendars -- Saturday, May 30, on Governors Island.

Though Harry is ready to play, his main reason for making the trip is to raise money for Sentebale, a charity founded in 2006 by Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, Africa, in honor of their mothers, to fight the country's poverty and HIV/AIDS crisis. The polo match proceeds will go to American Friends of Sentebale.

"We look forward to providing spectators with an afternoon of sport and entertainment, surrounded by the magnificent Manhattan skyline," says Veuve Clicquot's Aisha Thompson.

While here, Harry will also visit the 9/11 memorial, Harlem's Children's Zone, and visit with wounded soldiers.

Princess Diana would be proud.

Denise Richards will not be getting a recording contract anytime soon. And we should all be thanking out lucky stars for that.

While in Chicago for a fundraiser for the Kidney Cancer Association (her mom died of the disease about a year ago), the actress attended a Cubs game and wanted to set up an informational booth at Wrigley Field during the game. Cubs management agreed -- but only if Denise would bless them with her, um, talent.

"In return, they said, 'Will you sing?' " Denise told E! Online. "So I said yes, because it's for a good cause and we want to raise awareness about kidney cancer."

"I'm clearly not a singer," she says. "I wasn't doing it to show off my pipes. Thank God I wasn't singing the national anthem. But I thought it would be fun...I had no idea the backlash I would get."

Her rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" pretty bad -- did you see the looks on the faces of the people in the crowd? But Denise says she's well aware she has no future in making records -- she really just did it for a good cause

"It took everything in me to get up there and do that," Denise said. "My dad and my sister kept saying, 'Just remember you're doing this for Mom,' so that's how I got through it. It's just unfortunate that doing something good was turned into such a negative."

I disagree! It's not a negative at all -- just funny.

audrinapeta.jpgI'm all for Audrina Patridge being a do-gooder and representing PETA -- but did they have to Photoshop her so much that she looks like a brunette Barbie replica? It's just creepy.

Anyway, back to the point at hand.

In a statement released by PETA, Audrina says, "Each year, 6 to 8 million unwanted dogs and cats are turned in to shelters, and half are killed because there aren't enough good homes. The solution is as easy as ABC - animal birth control. Always spay and neuter, and never buy from a pet store or a breeder."

Thank you, Bob Barker.

I'm sure you heard about that devastating earthquake that struck the Abruzzo region of Italy on Monday. Well, Madonna, whose grandparents were from that part of the country, decided to reach into her pockets and help out the old country.

Madge's rep says that the singer gave a "substantial donation" to help those affected by the disaster. She wouldn't say how much, but a source said it was close to $500,000.

"I am happy to lend a helping hand to the town that my ancestors are from," Madonna told People.com. "My heart goes out to the families that have lost loved ones or their homes."

Nice.

Ever since the whole Chris Brown/Rihanna thing happened, domestic violence awareness has skyrocketed. The latest star to get in on the do-gooding is Keira Knightley -- who has filmed a pretty violent PSA for the charity Women's Aid.

The 2-minute spot will begin showing in movie theaters on April 6, and was directed by Atonement's Joe Wright.

Keira said she wanted to star in this piece because "while domestic violence exists in every section of society we rarely hear about it. Domestic violence affects one in four women at some point in their lifetime and kills two women every week."

Check it out.

Madonna's set to go before the judge today.

The material mom and daughter Lourdes landed in Malawi Sunday, as Madge has a scheduled meeting with a High Court judge Monday concerning her adoption of 3-year-old Mercy James.

"Madonna will appear before a judge ... to petition the court to certify her adoption," a source told UsMagazine.com. "Madonna will definitely be granted a temporary court order to allow her to take the child away with her."

But not everyone thinks Madonna's latest act of do-gooding is, well, good. Various children's charities have taken issue with the singer adding yet another child to her brood -- especially since she and Guy Ritchie have divorced.

"We should never allow our children to be placed into broken families," Maxwell Matewere, director of children's charity, Eye of the Child, has said.

A rep for Save the Children believes that taking Mercy from her native land is unnecessary.

"If the celebrity really wants to help children in poor countries, they should support charities like Save The Children and others who seek to improve the quality of children's lives in their own countries and communities," spokesperson Dominic Nutt said. "We believe they are better looked after in their own country as far as is possible."

What's your take? Should Madonna be allowed to adopt whoever she wants?

The wonderful person Natasha Richardson was in this life seems to have carried over after her death, as the actress' organs were donated after her family made the decision to take her off life support last week.

Organ donation "is very Natasha," a family friend told People.com. "She spent so much time fighting the stigma of AIDS; someone like that would naturally donate her organs. At least by donating her organs something good could come out of [the tragedy]."

Natasha died at the young age of 45, after she obtained a head injury while skiing in Canada.

No doubt she's sitting pretty in heaven.

John Travolta and Kelly Preston are working through the pain of losing their son, Jett, by doing something good for the world.

The beloved parents have established a foundation in the late boy's honor.

The Jett Travolta Foundation will work to "assist and provide relief to children with vision, hearing, mobility, communication, behavioral learning impairments or other special medical, environmental, health or education needs," according to a statement on John's official Web site.

The Travoltas lost Jett on Jan. 2, when died of a seizure disorder while the family was vacationing in the Bahamas.

Okay, so Salma Hayek made a pretty awesome move when she breastfed a sick African baby, while doing work for UNICEF.

"That was amazing," Salma said afterwards. "I'm in Africa, in Sierra Leone, and I was able to feed an ill baby that was very hungry."

The actress is still breast-feeding her own daughter, Valentina, who is 17 months old.

"I thought about it - am I being disloyal to my child by giving her milk away?" she told Nightline. "And I actually think that my baby would be very proud to be able to share her milk. When she grows up I'm going to make sure that she continues to be a generous, caring person, and I think that's the best thing I can give her as a mother."

Our message boards are all a buzz with praise for Salma (there are even some pregnant ladies getting all emotional). Let us know how you feel about Salma's milk-giving -- and if it changes your thoughts on her.

I bet the kids at L.A.'s Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA were more thrilled to see Zac Efron with a bunch of presents than they ever were to see Santa.

The High School Musical hottie stopped by the medical center on Friday and helped give away $10,000 worth of toys to the critically ill kids. Hooking up with Gifts.com, Zac Efron passed out toys including electronic keyboards, Tickle Me Elmo dolls, art sets, board games and HSM loot.

"He really spent time bonding with each of the children and their families," a source told event told UsMagazine.com. Zac also signed autographs and posed for photos with hospital staff.

"The kids were smitten and beaming from ear to ear," adds the source. "Some of the kids couldn't even speak, but they had the widest grins and would sit as close to him as possible.

"Zac was super gracious and could not have been more kind and truly happy to be there."

I love a nice story like this -- especially around the holidays. It's like a Chrismukkah miracle.

I'm slowly becoming obsessed with Anne Hathaway.

She drinks like fish and she sings karaoke! We are kindred spirits!!

Unfortunately for me nobody is shelling out the green to do shots with me, like they did for Anne this past weekend. A set of three fans bid $12,000 to have drinks with the actress, after she spontaneously put herself on the auction block at the Cracked X-mas Fundraiser in Sunday night.

"I'm not usually very forward, but I thought if there was ever a crowd for me to do something like this, this is my crowd so I would like to auction myself off," the Bride Wars star said, "for drinks somewhere fabulous and basically get you totally sh*t-faced. Tell me what I'm worth."

The proceeds for the night went to benefit the Trevor Project, a crisis helpline for LGBT youth.

Come on, now! That's my kind of girl.

The bidding to have drinks with me starts at $1.

Anyone?

Who am I kidding? I'll pay you to drink with me.

No, sillies, but that's funny to think about, isn't it?

Bette Midler and 50 Cent collaborated Monday to celebrate the opening of "The Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson Community Garden" in Queens, New York.

So, how'd that happen?

"I called and nagged him," the Divine Ms. M said. "His G-Unity Foundation gives a million dollars away every year in grants to non profits all over the city ... They're just brilliant."

"When Bette calls you don't say 'no.' Not if you want your reputation to stay the way it is," the rapper said.

The garden is located in Jamaica, Queens, where the 50 grew up. Neighborhood children will use the grounds to learn about how food grows. "I wish I had this to come to when I was growing up around here," he said. "The opportunity to create this garden for the youth and the community is a great one."

So, is this beginning of a beautiful friendship? "Absolutely!" 50 promised, before giving her a big hug.

"He's producing my next record," Bette jokingly concurred. "I will be rapping. He's writing a song for me right now."

That I'd like to see.

One of my many loves, Ryan Reynolds, accomplished a big goal on Sunday -- he finished the New York City marathon -- and did it in 3 hours and 50 minutes!

"I'm still standing. I'm very excited about that," he told reporters after crossing the finish line. "It was an incredible experience."

Ryan, who was taking on the challenge in order to raise money for the fight against Parkinson's disease, said that catching a glimpse of one particular spectator lit a fire under him.

"When I saw Michael J. Fox on Fifth Avenue, I gained about 15 pounds in goose bumps," said Ry. "It kind of pushed me through the last six miles or so."

Ryan was running for Team Fox, in honor of his own dad, who had been suffering from Parkinson's for the past 15 years. "[During the race] I thought a lot about my father and Michael and the 500,000 other people afflicted with this awful disease in the United States alone. I ran for those who can't," Ryan told People.com.

You wanna talk about goose bumps!

So, how would Scarlett Johansson's hubby celebrate his big finish? "I'll probably celebrate by eating my own body weight in raw dough."

Love him.

After a church vigil on Wednesday night, Jennifer Hudson's family announced Thursday that they have established a foundation for families of murder victims.

The Hudson-King Foundation for Families of Slain Victims was created in honor of Jen's dearly-departed mother Darnell Hudson Donerson, brother Jason Hudson and nephew Julian King, all who were tragically murdered last week.

"The specific purpose of the Foundation is to care for the needs of families who have lost relatives to a violent crime," the family says in a statement. "This encompasses their basic needs of food, clothing and shelter as well as grief counseling."

Donations to the Hudson-King Foundation can be sent:

So heartbreaking.

Angelina Jolie documented her recent trip to Afghanistan, where the UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador made an appeal for more support for refugees who are returning home.

Angie talked with the civilians, both young and old, and was visibly affected by the poverty that surrounded them.

"When you ask them what they need, they just smile and say, 'Everything,'" the actress narrates in this clip. "They have suffered so much, and yet the Afghan people remain, gracious, open. They have a quiet dignity."

This was Angelina's first trip back to the country since giving birth to twins Knox and Vivienne in July.

As much as I want to think that certain members of Diddy's girl group, Danity Kane, would like to be naked for the heck of it (yes, Aubrey O' Day, I'm talking to you), the girls have actually taken their clothes off for a good cause.

This time.

"We want to remind consumers that no matter how much the desperate fur industry tries to pull the wool over their eyes, electrocuting, drowning, strangling, and stomping animals to death will never be in style," PETA Director of Media Relations Michael McGraw told UsMagazine.com.

Come to think of it, naked is probably a lot less offensive than some of the recent outfits Aubrey has chosen to wear out of the house.

ryanreynolds1.jpgLike we needed another reason to love Ryan Reynolds, the actor is training for the New York City marathon to raise money for the fight against Parkinson's. The disease has affected the actor personally, as his dad has been suffering from it for the last 15 years.

In an open letter to The Huffington Post, the newly-married star (he's now Mr. Scarlett Johannson) says that the exercise regimen is not for the faint of heart. "I am not a runner," he wrote. "I am a running joke. Waking up at 4:30 a.m. and jogging anywhere from 11 to 23 miles has been nothing short of horrifying."

But Ryan realizes it's nothing compared to what his dad has endured.

"I've watched my father -- a strong and proud person who successfully raised 4 arguably insane children - slowly, cruelly stripped of his independence," he explained. "Witnessing my Dad suffer over the years galvanized my need to step up," he goes on. "On November 2nd, I'll join thousands of other men and women to march in lockstep solidarity toward searing psychic pain and physical humiliation."

Ryan says he is also taking to the streets in support of Michael J. Fox, who is also afflicted with Parkinson's.

"Like so many before me, I found it impossible not to be touched by his story of overwhelming strength, passion and relentless commitment to help those afflicted with this insidious disease. The man is inspiration exemplified," the Definitely, Maybe star wrote. "Plus, he was in Back To The Future."

Ryan urges us all to donate to the cause, and signed off by writing, "On behalf of me, my father, and everyone struggling with Parkinson's, our endless gratitude."

My eyes are welling with tears for two reasons:

1) Ryan is such an incredible man.

2) He's not mine.

drewbarrymoreelle.jpg

Serial dater Drew Barrymore says that her boy-crazy ways have gone, and that she's focusing on more non-romantic aspects of her life.

"My priorities have changed so much," Drew tells the new issue of Harper's Bazaar. "I've been single for months now and I've turned my attention toward my passions, my friends, and the causes I believe in. It's been about learning who I am, not through a man, but for myself."

The actress just recently broke up with "Mac Guy" Justin Long and, before that, dated Spike Jonze (who's now seeing Michelle Williams). But she had a pretty serious thing with The Strokes drummer, Fabrizio Moretti, prior to both of those flings.

"I've had a couple fun, frolicky relationships, but really, I got out of a five-year relationship and I dated a few people here and there. I've been spending time with my friends and doing more traveling with the U.N. and challenging myself at work," she says. "I'm so happy with where my priorities are right now."

Drew says her main focus right now is getting people to the polls to vote in the upcoming presidential election. "No one talked to me about politics or why voting is important," she said of her past. "I became an avowed voter and feel it is really important to engage other people in it."

So, that's what she must have been doing while she was sticking her tongue down Gossip Girl star Ed Westwick's throat -- trying to get to him to vote! I see.

britneybronx.jpgIt was all about Britney from the Block yesterday, as the pop star visited a school in Jennifer Lopez's old NYC neighborhood, The Bronx.

Brit stopped by John Philip Sousa M. S. 142 on Wednesday to present a $10,000 donation from Elizabeth Arden (the make Britney's perfumes), to be used to fund the school's year-old music program.

Upon her arrival, Britney was treated to a performance by the school's band, whose director, Sal Mazzola, told her, "When you're ready to take us on the road for an opening act, we're ready."

"You'll be the first people I call," she smiled.

She was also serenaded by the girl's chorus.

Brit's appearance was a huge surprise for the kids, who only knew they would be playing for a "high-profile" guest.

"I really enjoyed the time I spent at the John Philip Souza Middle School," Britney told People.com. "I've been working with the people at Elizabeth Arden for the last five years, and I know how passionate everyone is about the school. I loved hearing the school orchestra and the children sang so beautifully. The fact that Elizabeth Arden made such a large donation for the school music studio in my name was so generous."

Good stuff.

While we're on the subject of voting (just do it), here's a great video a good pal was kind enough to send me.

The clip stars the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry, Kevin Bacon, Jonah Hill, Sarah Silverman, my friend D's boyfriend, will.i.am, and so many more, stressing the importance of getting your voice heard in November's presidential election. The deadline for voter registration is soon (depending on where you live), so if you haven't gotten your place in line, watch this video and do what they say.

You''ll thank them for it later.

jessicaalbavote1.jpgSeriously, Jessica Alba is creeping me out, man!

Jess has posed for yet another scary photo, in order to get the word out on the importance of voting. Wearing a Silence of the Lambs Muzzler, the new mom drives the "use your voice" mantra home for the Declare Yourself campaign. She was previously featured in a different ad, tied to a chair and gagged.

"If you don't register and vote and make a difference, and hopefully change the bad things that are happening in our country, you are essentially just binding and muzzling yourself," Jessica said.

I hope she's not letting little Honor see these. I may have nightmares.

bradpittbodywash.jpgLike any of us, gay or straight, needed more of a reason to love Brad Pitt...

Brad has donated $100,000 to fight California's Proposition 8 -- which would take away same-sex couples' right to marry.

"Because no one has the right to deny another their life, even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn't harm another and because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8," the do-gooder said in a statement.

The actor has said in the past that he and love Angelina Jolie won't say their vows until it is legal for anyone and everyone to do the same. "Angie and I will consider tying the knot when everyone else in the country who wants to be married is legally able," Brad told Esquire.

That Brad --such a good egg.

bradangelinafrnace.jpgBrad Pitt and Angelina Jolie continue to spread the wealth, as they have just donated $2 million to the Global Health Committee to establish a center to aid children affected by tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS in Ethiopia.

This will be the second place that Brangelina has helped established -- the first being the Cambodian Health Committee's Maddox Chivan Children's Center in Cambodia. The new medical center, like the first, will provide medical, education and social services for children.

"Our goal is to transfer the success we have had in Cambodia to Ethiopia where people are needlessly dying of tuberculosis, a curable disease, and HIV/AIDS, a treatable disease," Angelina said in a statement.

The Ethiopian branch will be named after Brad and Angie's oldest daughter, Zahara, who was adopted from Ethiopia.

"It is our hope when Zahara is older she will take responsibility of the clinic and continue its mission," Brad said.

Tuberculosis care will also be a main focus of the clinic. The disease causes approximately 2 million deaths yearly, and is the largest cause of death worldwide for children and adults with AIDS.

"The fact that poor people continue to die in our world today of TB, a curable disease, because of lack of access to drugs and care is unacceptable," Brad declared.

Are you really going to STILL be mad at them?

tonyromosaves.jpg

I guess Tony Romo never gets, um, tired of being the good guy.

The Dallas Cowboys quarterback was on his way back from the airport on Sept. 7, fresh from his team's win against the Cleveland Browns, when he came across a couple stranded on the side of the road with a flat tire.

"All of a sudden I hear a voice say, 'Do you need help?'" Sharon White, 53, told People.com.

Grateful for the assist, the couple let Tony aid them in getting their tire inflated -- then they realized who he was.

"At that point, I looked at him and thought, 'Dang, he looks familiar,'" Sharon said. "I go, 'You know what? You look like Tony Romo.' He looked down and just gave me that boyish smile he's got. Then he said, 'That's because I am.'"

Obviously a football fan, Sharon was a tad excited.

"I just screamed as loud as I could," she said. "Then I grabbed him and hugged him."

Her husband Bill, 61, who had missed Tony's big game and had recorded it at home, asked Jessica Simpson's man what had happened to his bandaged chin. When Tony started to tell him, "I stopped him and said, 'Don't tell me! I don't want to know!" the man said.

Tony went on his way after that, but the couple are extremely grateful -- even if they did forget to thank him.

"I'd thank [Tony] so much for stopping," Sharon says, if she had the chance to send him a message. "I love him to death, he's a great guy. And I hope I didn't bust his eardrum!"

Awww, Jessica's got herself another good. I could so see Nick Lachey stopping to help someone, too. But John Mayer? Not so much.
