Mischa Barton is not crazy.
The Beautiful Life actress says that, although she was placed under psychiatric hold last month, she is not mentally ill -- instead, she says, her little meltdown was the result of wisdom tooth surgery gone bad.
"It was a nightmare," the actress, 23, told Time Out New York. "I've never had surgery before -- it all went wrong and I had to have a second surgery and it almost delayed shooting because it was a nightmare to me, because I couldn't deal with the thought of not getting there on time. So with the travel and surgery and prep for the show, it was hell."
Mischa said she's still in pain -- and the hardest part is that she take the "proper painkillers because I couldn't take those during work."
Uh-huh.
As for being removed from her home by police in July, Marissa Cooper says that it was a whole bunch of things that led to her falling apart.
"I went through a tough spot where everything compounded on me, and it was like a perfect storm, like everything was happening to me at once," she told the mag. "I was down in the dumps about everything there for a while."
She's not calling it an official nervous breakdown, "But it was pretty bad," she admitted. "It didn't last that long... Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom about things and have to get the most stressed out just to feel better again. I got completely stressed out and couldn't handle everything, and now I feel really in control."
Damn dentists! They can ruin your whole life.
Melanie Griffith has checked in to the Cirque Lodge rehab center in Utah, her rep confirms to Star.
"She is there to reinforce her commitment to stay healthy. This is part of a routine plan that was designed between her and her doctors years ago," Robin Baum said.
But insiders are telling the mag that the actress is still battling addictions to drugs and alcohol -- the same fight she's been fighting since she was a teenager.
"She's working with the counselors on getting control of her demons," the snitch said.
And said demons are reportedly causing trouble in Melanie's marriage to Antonio Banderas.
"The reason Melanie checked in was her husband was demanding that she get clean and sober," another source told Star. "He told her that if she didn't get the help she needed it would be the end of their marriage."
A third source said that Antonio is doing what he can to support his wife.
"Melanie's struggling right now, but Antonio has been checking in on her as much as he is allowed, making sure she gets back on her feet. Without Antonio in her life, I honestly believe Melanie would be dead."
We wish her the best.
Sharon Osbourne has revealed her and Ozzy Osbourne's daughter has checked into rehab.
"Yeah, Kelly's in rehab," Sharon confirmed to RadarOnline.com. "What else can we say? She knew that it was the right thing to do at this point and we're proud that she did it. The family is all standing behind her. Kelly knew that she needed help and she's getting it."
She didn't say exactly what Kelly was getting help for, but did say that her girl is expected to stay for at least 30 days. This is the third stint in rehab for the star kid, who was just recently arrested for hitting a gossip columnist in a London club.
"Kelly will tell you herself when she gets out," Sharon said. "We just pray that everything's going to be okay."
"Kelly realized she had a problem and made the decision to go back for treatment," a friend told Star mag. "Her life was spiraling out of control and she needed help."
We wish her the best of luck.
It's about time, right?
Perpetual mess Tara Reid has finally decided to try and shed her drunk-girl image and has entered rehab.
"Tara Reid has checked herself into Promises Treatment Center," her rep told UsMagazine.com. "We appreciate your respect to her and her family's privacy at this time."
The actress, who hasn't done anything to speak of in years, has been seen, on so many occasions, wasted out of her mind, unwittingly flashing the paparazzi on the red carpet, looking scary-skinny, and making really D-list personal appearances.
Rehab has been calling her name loud and clear for years. Best decision ever. Good luck, Tara.
Blaaaaaaaake!
Amy Winehouse's troubled husband, Blake Civil-Fielder, has been released from jail, after serving only 12 months of his 27-month sentence for causing grievous bodily harm and obstruction of justice.
But "Blake Incarcerated" will have to wait to be reunited with his equally messed up wife, as he headed straight for rehab after his release from the slammer, as part of his deal. And Amy wasn't even able to accompany him on the ride to the substance abuse clinic in Surrey, because she is having some problems of her own; the singer was hospitalized with a chest infection earlier this week.
And so begins the next chapter of one of the greatest romance stories of our time...
A shocker of all shocks? Not so much.
David Duchovny and Tea Leoni have announced that they have split and, in reality, have been separated for months.
"In light of continuous speculation over the lives and marriage of Tea Leoni and David Duchovny, the couple has confirmed that they have in fact been separated for several months," their reps said in a joint statement to People.com. "The couple had hoped to keep this separation private for the sake of their children."
The couple, who have been married since 1997 and have two children together, have been in the news lately, as David entered rehab this past summer for a sex addiction. He supposedly successfully completed the program, whatever that means, earlier this month, and was seen out with Tea just recently.
Sources on the set of David's show, Californication, say that, much like his character, David likes the ladies --maybe a little too much. Sounds like it's definitely time for Tea to move on.
David Duchovny is back on the streets.
"David is out of rehab and about to start a new movie," the actor's lawyer told People.com. "He successfully completed his treatment."
"His treatment" -- whatever that consisted of -- was for his alleged sex addiction that sent him to get help in August.
Tea Leoni and her husband seemed to have lucked out during this tough time, press-wise, anyway. I mean, the whole sex addiction issue was jus sort of t swept under the rug and, really, not made into big deal at all. Huh. I guess that means nobody cares that much about them anymore.
Oh well, maybe that's a good thing.
Country singer Mindy McCready is about to have some extra time for song writing.
Mindy is prepping to turn herself in to police tomorrow for violating her probation for prescription drug fraud in June. Her attorney, Lee Ofman, issued this statement:
"In accordance with an agreement we have reached with the district attorney of Williamson County, Tennessee, Ms. McCready will voluntarily surrender to authorities on September 30th to serve a sentence of 60 days. The successful completion of this sentence will satisfy her obligation to the State of Tennessee resulting from her probation violation."
The troubled crooner did a stint in rehab this past July, and was jailed in 2007 for, yep, violating probation on a drug arrest from 2004.
Mindy sent this message out to her fans:
"I am working very hard to put all of this behind me as quickly as possible so I can get back to what I like to do most: sing, write songs, and entertain. I would like to thank my fans for their unwavering support as I continue to work on my recovery and to regain custody of my precious son, Zander."
This is so going in the mug shot Hall of Fame.
Heather Locklear was arrested in Montecito, Ca. on Saturday afternoon and booked for suspicion of driving under the influence of prescription medication.
A reportedly wonky Heather was pulled over by police after a witness reported that she was driving "erratically." California Highway Patrol spokesman Tom Marshall told the Associate Press that cops saw the actress' car parked on highway, partially blocking a lane. "In talking with her, the officer determines that she seems to be under the influence of something," the rep said.
Heather, who had just completed a stint in rehab for anxiety and depression, was taken into custody and tested for drugs and alcohol.
"Alcohol was ruled out as a factor, but based on the officer's observations, we believe Locklear was under the influence of prescription medication," the cop said.
She was booked, this picture was taken, and Heather was released.
That freaky 911 call, rehab, now this? Downward spiral!!! Somebody stop her!
If you believe everything you read, Kirsten Dunst is a major party girl who likes to hit the bottle and date, well, just about anyone and everyone. But the actress is setting the record straight (or at least trying to) in the new issue of Harper's Bazaar, where she opens up about her bout with depression and her recent stint in rehab, from which she says she "learned a lot."
"Everyone goes through a hard time in their life," Kiki told the mag. "They just don't have to do it in front of tons of people and with our media the way it is. I did, and I'm lucky that I had the resources and the money to take care of myself."
So what happened that she ended up in the infamous Cirque Lodge? Well, the details are sketchy, but the actress says, before she checked herself in, she was "enormously co-dependent."
"I wasn't taking care of myself emotionally. I wasn't expressing my anger," she says. "I was making nice all the time."
I get that.
And? What about now?
"Now, I'm great," she declared.
As for her much-talked about love life, most recently the actress was reportedly seen hanging with Drew Barrymore's ex, Justin Long -- with whom Kirsten denies there's anything going on.
"I don't know him from Adam!" she swore. (Us Weekly tells a different story, btw)
"Listen, I'm happy single or not single," she says. "Now I love me, so I'm okay."
Okay? Okay.
I've always loved Eva Mendes and thought she was the type of girl I could absolutely be friends with. Then I found out she likes to give away all of her really expensive stuff to those in her inner circle -- and now I'm totally convinced we'd be great pals.
Seriously though, Eva checked herself into rehab earlier this year due to her struggle with fame.
"Up until recently, I was really uncomfortable with having success and enjoying it," Eva, who's starring in a remake of The Women, said. "I just couldn't deal with that. How can I have so much? It's not fair. How can the world have so little?…I allowed it to mess with me in the sense that I just didn't know how to handle it."
But she figured it out. "I've really broken it down to this simple thing: I deal with everything by giving it away," the gorg actress reveals. "It's genius. It works."
For instance, Eva insisted an elderly pal of hers keep a new pair of Cartier sunglasses the actress had, after her friend tried them on. "I said, 'You need to have them. They look really good on you.' "
Eva credits her new outlook on good, old fashioned shrink rap.
"I'm big on therapy," she told E!'s Marc Malkin. "I've always said I love talking about therapy, because there's nothing wrong with it. Why wait until something goes terrible in your life to start fixing things?"
Eva, you're so cool. And I really love that bag you're carrying....
Former One Day at a Time actress MacKenzie Phillips has been charged with two felony counts of drug possession on Wednesday, after being caught last week with drugs at LAX.
The drug charges consist of one for cocaine, one for heroin -- and a misdemeanor charge for the unauthorized possession of a hypodermic needle or syringe, stemming from when bags and balloons fell out of her pants in the airport security line.
According to TMZ.com, Mac has entered rehab for the tenth time. She was fired from One Day at a Time due to her drug use -- and that was 26 years ago.
Demons....
Is this the best case scenario for someone with a sex addiction? I'm not sure, but it is, kind of, in a way, better than David Duchovny having affairs with tons of women to satiate his desires.
Fox News is reporting that David, who entered a treatment center for his sex addiction last week, was not carrying on behind Tea Leoni's back with his tennis instructor (how cliché!) as rumored. Instead, he was actually carrying on with his keyboard. Sources say Dave was a big fan of internet porn.
But, none of this came as a surprise to Tea, who's been aware of her hubby's addiction for some time. The issue apparently just got of hand, and everyone involved felt it was time to do something about it. But why announce it to the world? Well, it seems someone involved in David's therapy tried to make cash off the story by selling it to the tabs, so Dave and Tea bit the bullet and owned up to the situation.
So, tell me -- addicted to internet porn -- better or worse than your husband having an affair?
My pal Jacki and I were just talking the other day about how much timing sucks for Tea Leoni. The actress, who, it seems, hasn't been around in forever, finally has a new movie coming out, and her hubby of 11 years, David Duchovny, has to go and enter himself into rehab for a sex addiction.
Tea was scheduled to appear at the Toronto Film Festival, to promote her new flick, Ghost Town, but has bailed -- most probably because she's not exactly ready to answer questions about Dave's, um, issues.
You know no matter how many times her publicist would have told the press that inquiries about David's addiction were off limits, somebody was going to sneak something in. Then there would be this big awkward moment and it would we all over the tabs again. So, instead of dealing with the what-ifs, Tea just pulled out and went the (ALERT: Bad joke of the day on its way) premature evacuation route.
I know, it's bad.
X-Files star David Duchovny is a sex addict. Literally.
"I have voluntarily entered a facility for the treatment of sex addiction," the actor told People.com, in an exclusive statement. "I ask for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family."
The actor and father of two, who has been married to actress Téa Leoni since 1997, ironically won a Golden Globe this year for playing a sex-crazed writer on Showtime's Californication.
Rumors of David's problems have surrounded him for years. In 1997 he told Playgirl (of all magazines!), "I'm not a sex addict. I have never been to those meetings. It's hurtful to my family and if I was involved with a woman in a monogamous relationship, it would be hurtful to her.
"There was another story claiming I was a neat freak. If I had to choose one of the two, I think I'd rather be a sex addict. It's not funny and I'll be glad when it goes away."
Guess it's not going away anytime soon. And how times do you think you are going to hear that old song "David Duchovny, Why Don't You Love Me?" on the radio today?
Country singer Mindy McCready has entered rehab, after a trip to the ER couldn't heal all that was ailing her.
"Mindy McCready did receive emergency care at Vanderbilt University Medical Center," her rep said in a statement. "Other issues made it prudent for her to seek longer term and broader based treatment."
"To her credit, she has entered into an extended care facility where she will receive the care needed and for the moment we ask that everyone respect her privacy," the rep added.
Though the reason for her hospital visit was not released, TMZ.com reported that the troubled singer, who recently admitted a past affair with married Yankees star Roger Clemens, mixed vodka and Ambien in a suicide attempt. While the New York Daily News reported that Mindy suffered a nervous breakdown from all the media attention her alleged affair brought on.
Mindy has been battling demons for sometime now. She had a drug arrest in 2004 and violated her probation in 2007. Hopefully she'll get the help she needs this time.
Heather Locklear is back home, after spending four weeks in an Arizona treatment facility. The actress was reportedly getting help for issues with anxiety and depression, but seems to be doing much better after her time away.
"Heather's feeling really great," a close friend told People.com. "And she looks beautiful, just radiant."
Still referring to Heather's recovery as a "work in progress," the insider says that Richie Sambora's ex is getting back to her old self. "She told a really funny story and she laughed from her core," the pal recounted. "That's when I knew she was going to be fine. I think that's the best part of all – it's so nice to hear her laugh."
Supporting Heather through her tough time was boyfriend Jack Wagner, who made a couple of visits up to the facility to cheer up his woman. But the former Melrose Place star was even more anxious to log some time with someone else -- her daughter, Ava -- who had been spending her summer with her Bon Jovi rocker dad.
Glad to hear Heather is feeling good!
Rolling Stones' Ronnie Wood is having all kinds of trouble.
The guitarist has entered a rehab facility for his "continued battle with alcohol," his rep said Wednesday, and this comes just a week after reports surfaced that the plus-60 married rocker was having an affair with an 18-year old cocktail waitress.
"His close family and friends say he is seeking help and look forward to his recovery," the rep added.
Ron has previously admitted to trouble with booze, as Mick Jagger and Keith Richards (who may want to take his own advice) urged him to get help before The Stones' 2002 tour.
Get well soon!
Heather Locklear has been in rehab for over three weeks now, where she is getting treated for issues with anxiety and depression, but the worst part hasn't been fighting her demons in the Arizona facility, it's been being away from her daughter, Ava.
"The hardest part of all of this is being apart from Ava," a friend of Heather's tells People.com. "But she knows she'll be better than ever, and that they'll both really benefit from this. She's feeling better, but it's tough."
Heather has had a visit with some loved ones -- boyfriend Jack Wagner showed up last week -- and the pal says the actress has improved even since then. While Jack was there, witnesses said Heather looked tired, pale, and skinny, now she seems to be bouncing back, appearing "bright-eyed, alert and well-rested," says an observer. "She looks so much better."
Though Heather wishes she could be with Ava, she is comforted to know that her girl is getting some quality time with her pop, Bon Jovi rocker Richie Sambora. "Heather's really happy that Ava got to spend time with her dad," says Heather's pal and reveals that she and Richie "are speaking all the time."
"They really have come through [the breakup – and are] on the other side."
Good news for everyone involved -- Heather, Richie, and, most importantly, Ava. Let's hope this upswing continues!
Eva Mendes got snippy with Interview's David Colman, when he joked about her recent stint in rehab. And rightly so, if you ask me. What a jerk!
Here's the excerpt:
David Colman: Now let's talk about substance abuse. My favorite topic.
Eva Mendes: Great.DC: First of all, what is it with actors and substance abuse?
EM: I don't know. I'm not a spokesperson for any kind of substance-abuse organization.DC: They're going to have to change the name of it to "Alcoholics Unanimous."
EM: [silence]DC: I'm sorry, that's a bad joke.
EM: I'm not making jokes, because people die from this stuff. So, honestly, I think it's a bit tacky that you made a joke. I've got to be honest.DC: You're angry. Listen . . .
EM: I'm not angry. People have died, and I've lost friends too–even recently. So I can be a little
sensitive on the subject.
The actress goes on to say that a lot of what was written about her battle with the demons was way off.
"There are so many lies out there regarding my recent trip to Cirque Lodge. But I don't care what people think. I just don't care. So I will neither confirm nor deny," Eva said. "But for all the stuff that came out a few months ago about substance abuse, there were so many wrong stories. I was so happy about that, because it's when they get the real scoop that would make me really nervous. It's a relief, in a way. You want it to be a lie, because when it's true, that's when I'd be like, "Oh, my God!" It's time to rethink who's in your circle, because stuff got out."
We're so glad Eva is back to good and taking care of herself (in all aspects) -- she's one of the coolest chicks in Hollywood today.
Jack Wagner is standing by his woman, as sources say the Bold and the Beautiful actor trekked to Arizona to visit girlfriend Heather Locklear while she's in rehab. Jack spent a few hours at the facility last weekend, having not seen Heather since she left to get help on June 19, and his visit reportedly "really lifted her spirits."
Heather has been struggling with anxiety and depression since her split from ex, Bon Jovi rocker Richie Sambora, and reportedly put herself away to get the help she needs. A spy said that the actress "looked exhausted," when Jack came to see her. "Even with no makeup she was beautiful, but she seemed tired, pale and very skinny."
But her guy's trip seemed to make a difference, as he kissed her on the forehead during their lunch and made her laugh. "He looked like he was taking care of her," said an observer of Jack. "It was very sweet."
Heather is taking her time with her treatment and is not putting pressure on herself to get out. "Once she's feeling better," said a close friend, "She'll come home."
And it looks like Jack will be waiting with open arms.
I don't want to say "I told you so" to all my dear Blabber-ers who insisted I was the devil for insinuating that Steven Tyler was not just in rehab for foot surgery, like he said -- but I have to.
The Aerosmith frontman is now admitting that it wasn't exactly his foot that caused him to hang out in a rehab facility -- it was his addiction to the drugs that he was put on to stop the pain from the foot surgery.
"To have your feet done, to have your leg done, you have to be on narcotics," Steve told the Associated Press on Friday. "You have to be on sleep aids at night. I don't know about Joe [Perry], but I was off and running and I didn't like the me that was me."
The singer, who had been through drug rehab before in 1986, recognized the downward spiral and took action. "This was a month ago," he said Friday, "so I just put the brakes on and checked into detox and just pulled the plug on all of it."
Props to Steve for taking care of business, but that foot surgery excuse sucked big time.
Uh-oh. Maybe that 911 call a while back to Heather Locklear's house wasn't such a fluke.
According to People.com, the primetime drama goddess is seeking treatment for psychological issues at an Arizona facility.
"Heather has been dealing with anxiety and depression. She requested an in-depth evaluation of her medication and entered into a medical facility for proper diagnosis and treatment," said her rep, Cece Yorke. "This is a confidential medical matter and no further statement will be released."
I'm so sad for her! I love Heather (even though she is currently dating my former boyfriend Jack Wagner) -- always have, always will. Feel better soon!
American Idol alum Nikki McKibbin is headed back for some more reality television experience. Except, this time, instead of competing for a career in music, the season 1 contestant is just trying to get sober.
VH1 announced yesterday that Nikki will be joining an interesting group of names on the new season of Celebrity Rehab. On the roster this time around is Rod Stewart's son Sean Stewart, model Amber Smith, Rodney King, Guns N Roses rocker Steven Adler, actress Tawny Kitaen and Gary Busey -- and yes, everyone's favorite belligerent addict and CR veteran, Jeff Conway.
Nikki will be the second Idol to face her demons on TV (and no, I'm not referring to Simon) as she follows in the footsteps of messed-up pal Jessica Sierra.
All I can remember about Nikki, from the Kelly Clarkson-winning year, was that she had weird hair and a young son. Hopefully she gets the help she needs for his sake.
So, Steven Tyler say his latest stint in rehab had nothing to do with drugs or alcohol. Instead, the Aerosmith rocker is using that tired old excuse that his foot hurt -- and that's why he was hauled up in Las Encinas Hospital drug rehabilitation, the center where Dr. Drew counsels all the crazies on VH1's Celebrity Rehab.
"The doctors told me the pain in my feet could be corrected but it would require a few surgeries over time," Steve says in a statement released Thursday. "The 'foot repair' pain was intense, greater than I'd anticipated. The months of rehabilitative care and the painful strain of physical therapy were traumatic. I really needed a safe environment to recuperate where I could shut off my phone and get back on my feet. Make no mistake, Aerosmith has no plans to stop rocking. There's a new album to record, then another tour."
According to his peeps, Steven was treated at the center after a bunch of surgeries and physical therapy "to correct long-time foot injuries resulting from his trademark athletic performance onstage."
And by "trademark athletic performance" they might just mean they way he was able to lift a bottle of Jack Daniels with his toes to his lips.
Everyone can stop picking on Kirsten Dunst for her hard-partying ways, now that the actress has revealed that she didn't actually check into rehab earlier in the year because of her excessive drinking.
“I didn’t go to Cirque Lodge for alcohol abuse or drug abuse,” Kiki said in a new interview to E!. “I went there for depression.”
The actress says that it took six months before she admitted she needed help.
“I was struggling, and I had the opportunity to go somewhere and take care of myself," she said. "I was fortunate to have the resources to do it. My friends and family thought it was a good idea, too. But I didn't know where to go. My doctor recommended Cirque Lodge."
Kirsten says she's also taking this opportunity to clear up the rumors that have been circling about her recently. "There has been a lot of misrepresentation about what is going on in my life," she insists. Basically saying that talk that she is a walking mess are just untrue and are "very painful for my friends and family."
“Everyone feels like they have to defend me. They hear the rumors, and it puts them in a defensive position," she adds. "Now that I’m feeling stronger, I [am] prepared to say something.”
As for her love life, Kirsten felt the need to address those rumors that she is getting it on with her All Good Things co-star. "I am not dating Ryan Gosling!”
Well, at least that's a bit good news.
According to TMZ.com, Steven Tyler of Aerosmith has entered rehab. The Aerosmith rocker is seeking treatment for substance abuse at the Pasadena Recovery Center.
This isn't the first time Steven, 60, has battled demons -- he once told Britain's Independent newspaper, "Of course, I did way too many drugs. I sunk to my knees and lost everything."
A rep for the singer had no comment.
Get well soon!
Um, isn't Lindsay Lohan supposed to be on the wagon?
Then why was the rehabbed starlet reportedly partying like a rock star in New York City over the weekend? According to People.com, Lindsay joined thisclose pal Samantha Ronson at Times Square's Hawaiian Tropic Zone, as Sam played deejay late Saturday night into Sunday.
According to a source, Lilo was drinking Grey Goose and Red Bull cocktails and getting down. An onlooker said Lindsay was "tossing her hair around and doing full body rolls" to the music – "even throwing her hands in the air and singing along to Madonna and Justin Timberlake's '4 Minutes'. She also sang along and pumped her chest to 'Soulja Boy.'"
Lindsay and Sam left the club together, in a black Cadillac Escalade at 4:15 a.m.
Someone told me recently that Samantha was supposed to be to Lindsay what Britney Spears' dad is to Brit -- you know, keeping her on track and focused on getting her career back.
Not so much, I guess.
It seems Eva Mendes' stay in rehab did her a whole lot of good.
The actress was out and about at a luncheon for Fresh Cosmetics yesterday, when she told People.com that she is "taking a break and having a good time" by exercising and being with her family. "The sun's out again. It's my time," she said.
Eva said that her work schedule had gotten hectic and she burned out, but, now, she's recharging her batteries. "I'm actually taking advantage of my time off," said the Hitch beauty. "You know, I had a film that was pushed, so I'm home spending time with my family, going to the gym and actually enjoying taking care of myself .... This year has been great for me because I've learned how to relax. The last three years have been amazing but kind of crazy. So I don't know, I feel grounded. I feel really good."
Yay, Eva!
Richie Sambora has had a rough go of it, the last six months or so, and the rocker felt the need to thank his fans for standing by him.
After being in and out of rehab twice last year, and getting arrested last week for suspicion of DUI (with his daughter in the car!), Richie was back on stage at Bon Jovi's Denver concert last night, where he showed his love to the crowd.
Near the end of the show, Jon Bon Jovi introduced his partner to the screaming crowd, then left the stage. Richie used his solo time to talk to his fans. "Hello Denver," he said. "I just want to thank everyone for their support. Sometimes friends need the help of their friends to get by. This next song is one that keeps coming back in my life and is current again ... ."
Then he sang "These Days."
I wish I was there.
